We have given up on the junket prac - we now use yeast solution - soak filter paper 'confetti' with it and use those for the pracs.. or potatoes..
so much easier..

Does anyone know if the powder has a use by date? I need to purchase some more and it works out much cheaper long-term to buy the 150g ($62.50 incl postage) bag than the 10g vials (x2 $14.20 incl postage) but there is no use buying it in bulk if it will stop working before we use it up. 20g has lasted us about 3 years I think, maybe 4, so 150g would last us a very long time! Otherwise, if any local (Tamworth) labbies are interested in sharing a bag (50g each?) that might work too...

Hi, I recently bought junket from Woolworths in Goulburn, I think it was approx $3.99 for a packet of 12 tablets. Each tablet makes 500mls of junket.

12 tablets = 6g powder so that works out to be ~$4/6g = $100/150g whereas buying it directly is $62.50/150g. I think I will just get the bulk pack.

Thanks for the info :)

Our bulk pack lasted about 3 years and worked fine at 3 years.
You also save having to crush the tablets when you get the powder so it disolves better.

Junket time of year again and I have run out of my powder that I got from "Just Junket" several years ago and there is not quite enough for the assessment task :w00t:
I tried their website but get an error message saying the website cannot be found and their phone number doesn't work either.
Does anyone know if they are still in operation and any contact numbers. The number I tried was 08 82449571

I Know you can get the tablets, but we have used this enzyme prac as our Year 12 assessment task for the last 8 odd years.
Each student is given 0.7gms of powder in a specimen jar which they make up to 50 mls.
They then use this solution at a ratio of 1ml to 10 mls milk to investigate the effect of temperature on the actions of enzymes.
The tablets contain different proportions of the ingredients so to keep the prac assessment consistent for all students I was wondering if the powder was still available.
I should have just enough for this year, there is one jar for each student, if they stuff up bad luck! and may go to a tablet each next year. We started using the powder when tablets became unavailable.

Wendy, have you tried the health food shop? They used to stock the powdered form.

Hi,

I had no trouble getting junket tablets (Hansells, 12 tablets/box) from Woolworths, they keep them next to the jellies. Regards, Ines

Hi everyone,

This may seem like a stupid question to some but here goes... will old milk work for the junket prac (optimum temperature for enzyme action)? I have left over milk in the fridge from last year (expiry date: Sep-2017).
