Periodic table
Does any one know where I can purchase a really big Periodic table from? We had one of those big green ones that was about 2m x1m but it got really ratty so we chucked it, thinking that we would just buy a new one to go in the new lab, but I can't seem to find one as big!!

projectile launcher landing pad
Hi all,
I was just wandering what everyone uses as a landing pad for a projectile launcher. We have been using a piece of polystyrene but it is getting very dented which makes it hard to see where the ball has landed. Is there a better way of doing this?

Re: Coverslips
We use petri dishes to store class sets of both the cover slips and slides, 8-10 of each to a dish.

Re: Geiger counters vs magic source
In a lot of the catalogues (either with the geiger counters or under 'radioactivity') they have an IEC "magic" source listed and it states that it safely simulates the principles of radioactivity. It's an instument that looks very much like the IEC geiger counter.

Re: Old Molecular Model Kits
Hi Lizzieb,
We have quite a few of those old sets here that we don't use. If you wanted to pay for postage we could send them to you.
Cheers

Geiger counters vs magic source
Hi All,
I'm still looking at geiger counters and just wandered how many of you have/use them? Has anyone used the "magic source"? Is it any good? Is it a good alternative to the geiger counter and having radioactive source in the lab?
Cheers Kase

Micro test tube racks
I would like to purchase some new test tube racks for use with the micro test tubes (10mmX75mm). We currently have the ones made from wood, but would like some made from polypropylene, or some thing like that. I have seen the blue ones from haines scientrific but don't like them. I want ones that pl...

Geiger counters
Can any one explain a bit about geiger counters. I've been asked to purchase one and wandered why some have GM tubes and holders and some don't. Do you need these tubes and holders? They are just as expensive as the counter! Would it be better to get the one with a built in tube and holder?

I get my dry ice from the local winery, for free, whenever we want it . So if you have a winery near by or a bottling facility perhaps you could try them.

Re: Stoppers stuck in Conical flasks
I have had much success in the past by using a piece of string. Place each end of the string in the neck of the flask, then invert the flask and jiggle so the stopper sits firmly against the string ( you should now have a handle ). Now pull..!!! I remember seeing this on the curiosity show...

Re: lab refurb or oh God cant someone help me
Congrats ocker, it's great to have brand new labs, faults and all. Besides the teachers walking through my prep area the biggest problem is the way the emergency gas stop is set up here. Safety standards require that we have E-stop buttons near the exit of each class room for both electricity and ga...

Re: lab refurb or oh God cant someone help me
I have just had my prep area, two labs and the science staff office refurbished. The teachers walk straight through my prep area to get to their office and GUESS WHAT!!! My chem store room is on one side of the walk way and the fume hood on the other!!!!! I wasn't happy about it at the planning stag...

storage of hydrigen peroxide
Hi all,
Can any one explain to me why chemwatch classifies hydrogen peroxide as an oxidiser (with a sub risk of corrosive) but shows that it shouldn't be stored with oxidisers??
Thanks Kase

Re: colour change
Hi Robyn,
The only thing I can think of would be to use a glucose solution with some benedicts solution added. Will change from blue to orange when heated.
Cheers Kase
PS This is my first ever post!
