Re: Food colouring....

I suspect the issue with food colouring is not so much that the kids are drinking it but that they are colouring their "home made alcopops" with it to add authenticity to the drinks. I bought 500ml bottles of food colouring from State Supply in Melbourne and have had no problem getting it ...

Biggest advantage is that you will no longer have to change cylinders and you will not run out of gas.
Cannot think of any disadvantages

Re: Help needed with a MacBook

Hi Ian, thanks for that detailed information. Yes you have totally confused me but that is not hard to do at the moment. I do not think memory is an issue there is plenty and as you say it either runs Mac or Windows. I'm using Parallels Desktop for Mac to run Windows. No I do not have to restart the...

There are a couple of teachers that use Macs but when I have asked for assistance I'm told to try this, that and the other thing all of which I have done and th...

Re: Thermometer Sprirt Seperation

The best and safest way I have found to rejoin thermometers is to place the thermometer in a tin of sand and heat. I use an old jam tin and heat it on a hotplate -can do several at a time this way. Wait until the thread joins in the air bubble at the top of the thermometer and remove it to cool. The...

Re: Vic Govt Schools new SSO agreement negotiations

Hi there, Sue and others, I think it would be a good idea for us to know what things you are negotiating for so that we know whether or not we need to add anything. I would like recognition of my 26 years as a lab tech. I am still only an SSO 1 now, (was an SSO 2-5) I applied for a promotion to SSO...

Re: Vic Govt Schools new SSO agreement negotiations

Hi Maree, Helen will correct me if i am wrong here but my understanding of the CPSU's take on yard duty is that it is a grey area. The key is in the supervision. As an SSO you are not supposed to supervise students (unless as in the case of Integration Aides) it is integral to your position. What do...

Re: Phenolphthalein agar disaster

Lyn I use the Agar coarse powder. Mine is quite old but works every time. I use cold water and sprinkle the agar powder over the top while on a hot plate with a stirrer. Cook it until it boils and then allow it to cool to about 60C before adding the NaOH and phenolphthalein. I used to find if I used...

Re: Vic Govt Schools new SSO agreement negotiations

Apparently, the teacher agreement gives an increase of around 23-32% over 3 years when changes of levels are added. If we could follow on with something like that it would be fabulous. I have a feeling that when the real facts come out and it is sorted out what the teachers are really getting it wi...

Re: Vic Govt Schools new SSO agreement negotiations

Sparkle, you are right and really I guess we are looking at the situation with ALL SSO's in mind, however, there is nothing wrong with asking for something that is relevent only to Lab Techs. One of the things being sought is a minimum classification for Technology people - ie Laboratory, Library an...

Vic Govt Schools new SSO agreement negotiations

Hi All, I see from the membership list of this site that there are about 20 Victorian Lab Techs that have joined today. My assumption is this is in part because of what is effectively a gagging order on the LTAV list. Firstly let me state it was not my intention to cause trouble. Government Schools ...
