Re: Miele
I use homebrand dishwasher powder here in all my dishwashers. Seems to do a pretty good job. Have you considered putting a dishwasher cleaner through it? I do this at home every two to three months to make sure the hoses aren't getting clogged with gunk. Finish do a very good one, there is also a ho...

Re: Flower Dissection
I usually send an email around to all school staff begging for flowers from their gardens. I am usually very lucky and have some very generous staff.
Daffodils are usually the flower of choice (as you can tell by this we usually do the dissections in spring)

We got an LG two years ago when our old one died. It has been very good. The newer ones don't seem to fit in as much stuff as the old ones but it still beats hand washing!

Thank you for posting this. There have been no safety alerts for these that I am aware of and I know for a fact that we have these kits. Thanks Nicky for the heads up.

Re: My replacement
Use questions related to certain aspects of your job. It is very hard, I can see why you are stuck. I hope these are helpful. Ideas: What is an MSDS and why do we need one? Questions around what chemicals students are and aren't allowed to use and how to find out what is safe. Ask a question about a...

Re: Stomach Disection
We just use tripe bought from Woolworths. The pluck is icky enough. The smell once it has been around to all the classes by the end of the day is bad enough. I don't think I could cope with any thing worse! (accidently partially cooked the pluck 2 years ago when I was defrosting it. :whistling2: Tal...

Kimmy those signs are fantastic. I am going to send them onto a friend of mine who does science and home science at the school she works at. She regularly has problems with teachers giving her last minute requests. Very hard when you work across too practial faculties.

Re: How long do you have for orders?
Our prac requests get pinned up on a board under the day and period that the prac is for. I have had to pin a sign up next to this board that reads "Please ensure that you book the equipment you require for pracs AT LEAST48 hours in advance. (1 Week is better!) More than 1 weeks notice is requi...

Re: Where do you buy your beakers from?
I have purchased beakers from Westlab in Victoria. They are good quality and not too expensive. I know we in the ACT are supposed to use a certain supplier for office supplies but thankfully we have not been restricted to just one supplier of science equipment. That would be so hard considering how ...

Re: certificate for lighting a bunsen
Hi Smee, I have just finished doing our year 7 bunsen burner licences. I made my template up on publisher and just mail-merged the list of names onto it. Once printed I laminate them and the teacher hands them out. I tried to add a copy of it but I am being told that "The extension pub is not a...

Re: air conditioners in school
Our school is air conditioned in one building only. The science labs and prep rooms have air con but the science staff room and the other staff room in this building doesn't. Our office ladies don't but the principal does (both are in the same building). My children attend a school closer to our hom...

Re: Chemical sets storage trays
At another high school I have seen wooden blocks that have had holes cut into them (obviously not all the way through) that are slightly larger than the dropper bottle. They seem to be really good. Perhaps you could see your wood tech handyman and see if they could make you up some from some off cut...

I am sooooooo excited. :D Yesterday we received our newest editions to our science family, 6 rhinoceros beetles. :yahoo: :clap3: I have set them up in their new accommodations and they happily burrowed in under the compost. They are currently about to indulge in a lovely ripe banana. You are probabl...

Hi Ellice,
You could also check out the Better Homes and Gardens website. They have all sorts of recipies for bath salts, scented oils and many more.
Sounds like you are going to have some very pretty smelling students

Hi Judygee, I don't know about NSW but our risk assessments are on the back of the prac request sheet. This is filled out when the teacher is ordering the prac. It seems to work well. I also know of a lab tech who has the pracs on the computer with the risk assessments already filled in. It just nee...
