Re: Welcome back everyone to chemtalk

Well isn't this like coming across 'old friends'? A wave of nostalgia came over me. This is a fabulous resource and I have missed it. Great to see all the familiar names. And to all the new members - ya gonna love this forum.

Re: fume cupboards

We are undergoing a re-furb and a new Chemistry classroom is being built. We are going from five fumehoods (four of these double sided) across five classrooms and two labs, to just one double-sided one (one side in new lab, other side in Chemistry classroom). I asked if we could move one of the old ...

Re: Plastic shot glasses

We have a Science teacher who is very involved with her church who offerred to collect the used disposable Communion cups for me. She even washes them all before bringing them in. (Bless her.....) They are a wee bit smaller than a shot glass and made of plastic. I find them great for all sorts of us...

Re: Text books

I've just received complimentary copies of Science Quest 7 - 10. This is the text our staff have chosen. When you subscribe to the digital copy you get the hard copy free. We have 8 or 9 classes in each year level (plus the lab will need a copy) but we were only sent five copies of each text. So hop...

Re: diffusion-nice smell

Is it just to demonstrate how a smell/odour diffuses across a classroom (with students noting the time they can smell the solution and then they plot the path of the diffusion)? If so - I bring in old (empty) essential oil bottles from home. At the start of the class the teacher simply places it in ...

They are great.

Re: Microsoft Access

The LTAV has a MS Access Inventory database.

Perhaps you can purchase it?

All the work is done for you. You enter in the data and then can pull up chemicals low on stock, a list of Dangerous Goods, Hazardous Chemicals etc.., or search per item.

Will save you a lot of time and effort.

Re: velocity v=s/d what's the s stand for?

Now you have me really pondering.......

Distance is a scalar measure.
Displacement is a vector measure.

Velocity is distance divided by time. Maybe 's' was used so as not to confuse the two 'd's?

I am sure wiser brains will inform us.

Re: velocity v=s/d what's the s stand for?

Unsure, but does the "s" represent speed?

Speed is based on distance, whereas velocity is based on displacement.......I think.....
