Re: Bunsen Burners
We have visiting year 4 kids from the feeder primary schools once a year and I would not be happy with this set up either. There are plenty of other science things to do at that year level that dont involve heating liquids on a bunsen. Would the kids be tall enough to reach the conical flask above a...

Re: Pong!!
I had a super pongy one to clean up today, 20 jars that had been growing onion, potato and garlic in a cupboard for the last two months!!! Not sure which was worse, the onion smell, the garlic smell or the mouldy potato water smell! Phew!

Re: Do you help with your Science Budet
I do all the ordering, preparation of invoices for the payments officer and keep a spreadsheet of everything we spend each year. For day to day consumables I order without consulting the HOD but bigger items are discussed first. Each month the business manager provides a printout of expenditure and ...

hodson light box alternative
I'm feeling lazy and I get sick of carting out the power supply boxes for the Hodson light boxes. Does anyone know of an alternative light box that just plugs straight into the mains power?

samples from the bottom of the pond
We would like to be able to obtain water samples from different depths of a small lake. There is a small bridge that the students can stand on and lower a specimen jar down from, but how can we be certain that the sample is from the bottom, eg how can we stop it filling up before it gets to the bott...

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
We never have much success with the iron and sulphide and were looking for a second demonstration after doing the Mg and O2 one.

Re: Hydrogen Peroxide
So is the reaction heaps better??? We always heat our diet coke when doing the mentos demo to get a higher fountain, but I never thought of heating the H2O2 for elephants toothpaste. We always get such a huge amount of foam, I'm a bit scared to think how much would come shooting out if the reaction ...

Re: Laboratory Technicians Standards Draft
Thanks Teresa, I really hope something comes out of this, in particular the different levels and titles that are proposed. They will hopefully give us a career path and something to aim for instead of feeling I have got as far as I can with no hope of improvement. And perhaps more importantly, it is...

I keep the cords separate on a white tray, 10 to a tray. I find that is easier for storage on the shelf, tray just sits on top, and the cords dont get squashed when the students return them to the trolley
