Re: Laboratory Skills Course
Yes, that's the amount I've been quoted for next year. I haven't enrolled yet - who has that sort of money this side of Christmas?!

Re: alternatives to Chemwatch
To add to my previous comment. I just searched for a brand of dishwasher tablets on CW and it states "Non-hazardous". Guess what? Went to the manufacturer's website and sure enough, as you would expect, they are listed as "Hazardous". Not happy.

Re: alternatives to Chemwatch
All suppliers, by law, have to provide a SDS for their product. Most do this by providing them on their websites. But if you have trouble locating one, check with the company you purchased the product from, they should also be able to help. I'm just updating our SDSs and found the SDS for Dispirin o...

We just use the counters with an "X" on one side. Haven't had to do 800 though!

Re: Chemwatch GoldFFX training
I would have loved to have come, but will still be soaking up the sun on the north coast that week. Any chance of it being run later in January, or some notes be distributed to members after the training?
Thanks for organising this, sorry I wouldn't be able to attend that week.

Re: Safety Goggles
Hi Wayne We have Unisafe C-View here. Just bought some more from Haines for $4.95 each. They are cheap but I find they get broken at the bridge. This could be from abuse from students or general wear and tear. I've stuck with what they were already using, but it would be interesting to see if the de...

After my experience yesterday with their on-line help, I think in future I will think of it as "on-line help to get you really frustrated and angry".

Re: GHS Labelling and frustrations with Chemwatch
I'm just having a general rant. I'm sure the older versions were a bit easier when doing searches. I'll try to get it to give me a drop down menu - that doesn't always seem to happen. Thanks for the response so quickly.

GHS Labelling and frustrations with Chemwatch
I am getting more and more frustrated with Chemwatch. When I do a search for a chemical, the one I want can be miles down the list. I have tried contacting them but they tell me it works fine - except 2% is not the same as 2M! I am mostly using Chemwatch (Gold FFX) for labelling to comply with GHS r...

I noticed on this forum a bit earlier that someone had enrolled at Griffith by distance ed with no residentials - that might suit you Toni. Campbelltown TAFE is running the Cert III again next year for those of us in this part of the world. There was a glitch earlier on which didn't list Campbelltow...

Re: Chemwatch, registers, etc
That sounds way too much work for one person, just the data entry alone would tie you up for a week. We have about 1000 students and I work 35 hours a week. Getting the manifest updated and SDSs printed off is taking me a bit of time. I haven't made a concerted effort to get it done (hoping to spend...

Re: Chemwatch, registers, etc
Hi Annett I'm in a Catholic school and am responsible for the stocktake of science chemicals etc. I also have to organise other areas to do an annual stocktake. The person in charge of each area has to let me know if they require updated SDSs - it is their responsibility to check this information. I...

I probably should have taken a photo but didn't want to embarrass her, although she was having a good laugh herself. I have to say, it was travelling very smoothly across the rough pathway, one of those would be really useful!

Re: ASET NSW 2 day conference
Well done everyone, with the organisation. I learnt a lot, met some new people, which made getting up at 5am all worthwhile. Funniest thing - watching the lucky winner of the lab trolley pushing it across Hyde Park on her way to the station! Thanks for doing a great job of getting some really good p...

Re: spikk kits
The Safety Data Sheets for each chemical will detail what is required for clean up of spills. The respirator is a good idea because if you spill a chemical that you normally use in the fume cupboard, you will need to use a respirator in the clean up process.
Hope this helps.

Spend more than his fair share of the budget? I'm not familiar with the prac and he would be proud to call himself "old school" except he hasn't been teaching long enough for that title!smiley wrote:Wow. Old school. What's he trying to do?

Chromatography Column and Sephadex
Hello All The chemistry teacher has asked me to order a chromatography column with "some sephadex". SSA have the column, but don't list a price. I've googled sephadex and it's a trade name for a type of gel (?), but can't find a supplier. I'm assuming that he is intending to use the sephad...

Re: Fume Cupboard Smoke Test
We get ours tested by the supplier every 6 months, so I don't worry about doing it myself. I'm not sure what the regulations are in regard to testing, whether it has to be a licensed operator. It would be worth checking out before you go any further. (I noticed you're in Wollongbar - I hope the rain...
