Schulze's Solution

Hello
Could someone help us out with Shulzes Solution when testing for cellulose in food products?
I have a recipe for a solution, using zinc chloride, potassium iodide,
iodine and distilled water, but in the past teachers have had no success in getting results.
Any ideas
Thank you

Data Harvest Loggers

Hi A reminder to preserve the life of the loggers batteries you must let them run right down at least once a year before recharging. We let ours run flat at the end of each term. They are at least 5years old and we have had no problems with any of our equipment. But we also have older Casio loggers ...

bromine again

Hi
Just on the problem of storing our bromine, my concern is trying to reseal the bottle now that the original cap has disintergrated. What do you suggest is the best way to prevent the fumes escaping.
Thanks

Bromine Water

Hi
I'm wondering what is the best way for me to store a bottle of Bromine Water, 300mls, where the original cap has disintergrated. Would a glass stopper sealed with vacuum grease suffice until disposal time next year?
Would storing it in a chemical store room also be OK?

Help Please.

Hi
I have sourced notes from the Chemical Safety in Schools manual to make up my own SOP on equipment, manufacturer guides and text books et.
I keep two copies, one I place with the equipment and one in a folder which is easily accessible for all staff.

I use Chemwatch manifest. Its takes a reasonable amount of time to get it all set up. Once you have created all your various stores it's time saving when you want to do updates. You can print off each store in order of class and aphabetically etc. I keep a record for all departments, makes for easie...

Repairs to ammeters

I have found them very tricky to repair.
You can purchase the wires from Dick Smith, than you need to solder in the wires at the correct length without over heating the circuit.
Scientrific offers repairs, or go to http://www.rtg.wa.edu.au for a guide to repairs.

Cleaning out the old distiller

Hi
I am resurrecting our old distiller and the coil is coated in a hard coated scum.
What do you suggest as a suitable solvent to clean off the element?
I've already tried soaking it in a high grade detergent and lots of elbow grease.
Thank you, Tania[/sub]
