Re: St Mary's Conference over for yet an other year

I had a great time and have already used some of the hints I picked up in the Senior Biology session. Loved the penrith lakes visit - so interesting, and the preservatives and additives session was eye opening.

Thanks again for another fantastic conference and I look forward to next year

Re: bar code scanners

I am also in charge of one of those laptop trolley thingies and it is a bit of a pain - more the chargers getting tangled etc. I don't have trouble with them being returned and we have a booking system on the intranet as well as a sign out book kept with me in the prep room. Mine are luckily stored ...

Re: Food colouring....

Just checked out chemwatch for fun - 3,400 odd results for food colourings, food dyes some had moderate risk and 5,000 ingrediants, some had low risk, all had very bizarre first aid, fire fighting, protective gear warnings etc etc I didn't realise food colouring was such a dangerous item - and I let...

Re: Food colouring....

I guess - "don't drink" lol I don't have labels on them as they are already labelled from the shops - in box with 4 squeezy bottles or in the larger purchased bottles sent out with droppers - but I only have Seniors so they generally are more sensible (for the most part) - but now I have t...

Food colouring....

Went to the local supermarket today to buy some food colouring for the transpiration prac with celery. No big deal ...you'd think Food colouring has been removed from the shelves in woolies and I suspect other supermarkets along with all the essences. This is due to teenagers buying up big on essenc...

Re: Sulfuric acid Accident

A couple of years ago as I was decanting Conc sulfuric acid from a large bottle to a smaller bottle it splashed back and burned under my arm. It was only a small amount of acid but it hurt an incredible amount. Luckily I was working over the sink so I just stuck my arm under running water for about ...

Has anyone used glass filter crucibles with a Guko sleeve. We used Buchner funnels for the analysing the sulphur content of lawn food prac in year 12 Chem but this isn't 100% successful and we are looking to use sinctured glass filters instead. I believe that the department is supposed to organise another pickup when the updated CSIS package comes out this year, so if you are willing to wait you will get a free pick up. I am hanging for this as the quote I got for disposal was well over $3,000 - yep old school, heaps of old stock even afte...
