Re: pH OF WATER
Hi Ian I think you are right about them selling me cartridges that are suited to home use. I will order the ones you suggested from serrata, I am sure they are the type I originally had.The sulphur smell is with the new cartridges and I guess its because I don't use it every day so it must be becaus...

Thanks Rhonda for the tip but I am actually after a wholesale price and quantities of 25kg lots to start with, so I guess I will have to do some internet searches to source it.

This is such a useful site everyone seems to know something. So, my question is Does anyone know where I might be able to source wholesale, bulk amounts of australian white, green, or pink clay? The type that is used in face masks or body wraps in the beauty therapy industry. Appreciate any info Est...

Re: White Board Makers
I have finally found some white board markers that are reasonably priced and that the teachers find don't fade and don't have a toxic smell. I think we have trialled almost every other brand. The brand is MonAmi , bullet point, non-toxic and supposed to last up to 96 hours with the cap off. They com...

freezing eyes
Does anyone know how to freeze eyes so they will be OK to use next year? I have been given 30 from the local butcher and we are finished doing them for the year so I would like to keep them. I read somwhere to put them lens side down in a saline solution but I wanted to confirm that with someone bef...

Re: Test Tube Quality
Hi Richard, Maybe you could give the Office lady a broom and tell her to use it if she ever has car troubles! I had trouble with QStores with glass tubing, nicely wrapped in cardboad in about lengths of 1.8m or at least it was probably that length when it left Sydney. I had two attempts at getting d...

Re: droppers
Hi Rosalie, I thought changing droppers for lids was a good idea as well so I am going to do the same and then spend a bit extra and invest in nitrile black droppers as I need more. Where did you get the screw on lids for the dropper bottles from? I found that HCl sometimes removes iron stains so ma...

Re: Home Brew
Hi, I have done beer, ginger beer (alcoholic and non) very nice, I added some grated ginger to the ginger brew to give it some more flavour, the first lot I made from the tin was rather boring. I have also done wine using pretty much the same technique as the beer. For that I had to buy a big glass ...

Re: 2007 Chemical Safety in Schools Update Course
Can anyone tell me what the "mandatory workplace training chemical safety in schools" is? I thought the Dept just let anyone loose in science and weren't expected to have any training nor is any offered. I have done the two year TAFE course but am interested in learning how to properly use...

http://<URL removed, see forum rules>/ You could try these people as well for a supply. But talking to another lab assistant who is already onto it sounds like the way to go. What part of the curriculum does this work in with or is it just something that you think might interest the students. Estelle.

Re: Spill Kits
Hi Ivy,
Nice to see a name I know
I am like the others, I made up a kit that is stored in a central place, my list is the same except that I also have a mop marked just for spills as well that I keep with the kit. So far I have never had to use it.

Re: Spirit- Burners
Hi, I have had the same problem with the labels not sticking, either because of the bottle shape or that they tend to get a bit greasy. I resorted to the trusty old whiteout pen and put what is in the bottle on the bottom, you just have to be a bit careful when reading what it says but it does work ...

Hi Richard, If you are starting up new in Ag and aquaculture maybe you could check out some information on aquaponics, very interesting and can be done on a small scale, we are trying some with our marine studies class. There is a site on the web about aquaponics based in WA ,don't have the name at ...
