That limit 20L sounds more like it.
100L and additional 250L in flammable cabinet seems VERY excessive for a school.

Hi Melsid,
I was just going to suggest a sign with Do not put your lunch in here. You have no idea how many times I had to point that out, only to be told, they are not touching the chemicals, dah..

Re: Boiling Metho
Only in water bath or heating mantle, never over open flames (bunsen burner).
Not sure why you have to keep it boiling, but if kept away from flames should be fine.

We do not stain it . Students can see the strands in the t/tube or they can pull it out with tweezers.

We use fruit loops or nutrigrains.
Peanuts are banned in our school. Pasta is doable, but takes a long time to light and keep it going.

Our Ca(OH)2 must be at least 20yrs old and I still use it. Make sure, you have enough undissolved powder on the bottom of container. Maybe leave it for a couple of days and shake it regularly and than filter the clear solution. I never had that trouble, so not sure what to advise you except make sur...

Re: cleaning the science labs
Similar to fibreweb, I wash dirty glassware, when needed (most days), replace into each lab (I have 4) about once a week, make sure all the equipment is back under benches, wipe benches after dissections or dirty prac etc, but do not place used equipment back into bins, when I can get away with it. ...

Is it gravimetric? We use 7% barium chloride solution to drop out the sulfate from fertilizer ( it presipitates as barium sulfate)

Most of them are in glass, only HF must be in plastic as it attacks glass.
I have all my diluted acids in plastic containers.

Re: Labelling unknowns
I do the same as Ian. Sometimes cover the whole label and put a letter on it, sometimes if needed, I leave the risk phrases on the bottle and just cover name of chemical. It is handy to know straight away, what the chemical is , in case of emergency.

Just another thought.
Maybe confirmation tests give you positive results for both Fe ions but NaOH test will separate Fe2+ from Fe3?

Re: Cations and Anions
Yes, that one is tricky.
Make sure you have very fresh Fe2+ .
Use potassium ferrocyanide for Fe3+
and potassium ferricyanide for Fe2+ test.
Good luck
