Hi all,
Where have you sourced a thick walled glass trough for this demo? I had these when I worked in the UK. They were shallow-ish yet quite wide in diameter.

Re: sealed radioactive source
No, we don't have one for ours. I don't even know how long ago they were purchased.
I've adapted the model RA from ARPANSA for our records.

I found my old log in! Yay!
Thanks for your reply David.
My head of physics is great and would trust completely compared to myself with it as she has way more experience around the whole thing.

Re: Labelling
I remember having a science audit before I left by the Catholic Education Office, and the science officer said something along the lines of schools being under a different umbrella of things and don't need to do (or parts of) the new labelling. That was after I relabelled everything!

I'm living in Cambridge. Oh the grey clouds are coming in! Definitely jealous of the warming months of Sydney.
I have a week break for half term. I'm looking forward to it very much already!

Re: Welcome back everyone
Hello from England!!! The countdown is on for the end of the year for you all. I've been at my new schools (working across two sites) for almost a month and it's good working with another labbie. I feel that the things the students learn are further ahead than what I'm use to in NSW (or maybe the sc...

Love the different sessions available. I found the Glass workshop, Optimum Technology, Dissection connection, Logi...

Re: Job Vacancy NSW
Also, there will be a year 10 prac exam in Week 7 (the week the job starts).
I will get all solutions sorted and hopefully it won't be too crazy.

Re: Practical record keeping
I didn't know about this! This is what I do though- every time a prac is ordered through RiskAssess (or via email) I write it down in weekly planner, mainly for my own organisation. The name/date/time of prac should match that from RA and I have kept the diaries from the last 2 years (mainly because...

Re: GHS Labeling
You can also edit the Chemwatch labels to have a limit of statement sentences if you have labels with heaps of lines. I remember at one Chemwatch 'training day', the speaker said you can have simple label on the droppers and then on the dropper tray, have the label with the complete information on i...

I have this in the prep room and in the labs.

It was mentioned in an ASET workshop back in 2013. I haven't updated it with anything from Aus though.

Re: Was there an official memo about GHS ?
I can't say as I'm in the CEO Syd system. I "think" an email was sent a couple of years ago or it was mentioned when I attended one of those ASET training days. I had an audit last year so it was brought up then re: ghs labels as well. I would have assumed someone had to be notified in the...

Re: Airconditioning labs
I haven't heard about these regulations.... since we have air con in the labs in the new building. Although we've had our share of issues with it turning on to the heat setting instead of cooling. In the old labs, the rooms had some sort of air con but not the prep rooms. I did the same as Lyn, open...

Re: saturated KOH
What is the KOH used for in this exp? Is it the catalyst? I've only used yeast or KI in this.
Can you (or the new teacher) make a new risk assess order with KI instead of KOH?
