Re: Calcium Fluoride
Don't feel bad about chatting to the teacher. We all make mistakes. Absolutely Merilyn , I must drive my teachers bonkers at times , but better they know ahead of time if there are issues . regarding the Calcium Fluoride , sometimes teachers deliberately ask for the impossible .In this case they ma...

Re: spectrum tubes
Made an adapter in the 3D printer and found a bit of spring that lengthens the contact in the base.

Re: spectrum tubes
Got a Power supply for our spectrum tubes as this year we had a new physics teacher that was a bit nervous with induction coils . Plugged an old Tube in and it ran beautifully with a nice constant glow compared to the flickery results that an induction coil normally causes . New Spectal tube PS.jpg ...

Re: Plastic bottles/jerry cans for solutions
I wish Riskassess had some middle size labels . It was your dilemma which made me make my own Rosalie . My OCD is strong. I still will only use the same coloured pegs to hang an article on the clothes line .  Regarding leaving a legacy , that is also something that always plagues me . ...

Re: how do you order your Chemstore Groups ?
OK , thanks . I'll probably just Alphabetically store them then . The Tubs probably aren't essential , but after finding so many cracked glass jars recently and contents that had ended up on the wooden shelves , I thought I'd just do it as a precaution . And I can Dymo Label each Tub with contents t...

how do you order your Chemstore Groups ?
Recently I have finally seperated our chemicals into DG classes .....yeah , I know , but my predecessor said it made it too hard to find anything unless they were all in alphabetic order . :whistling2: So , now I have a piles of chemicals in each group and I have purchased about 80 plastic tubs to p...

There . Apparently every-time she turned her back to write stuff , they’d start throwing stuff . Back on topic , We make Sherbet in the Labs . Have a dedicated set of morter and pestles and stuff thats kept in the staff room for this prac . Kids get to take it home to eat . Just curious - why do yo...

Re: Amber dropper bottles
I've got mine from Haynes recently . I got some from Serata MTA but they have a funny size dropper lid that doesn't fit anything else. The Black Silicone teats from MTA are quite resistant to most things except acid . They quickly perish with Acid . The Red Rubber ones are better for Acid still . So...

Re: School culture concerning food.
I wish I had taken a picture of one of our Labs yesterday . It was a down right disgrace. Some kid had pulled out a Peanut butter Sanga ....like those are banned anyway ....and then proceeds to smear it around the classroom . Then some other kid pulls out an apple , takes bites and spits them everyw...

Re: equipment with cords
Leave it plugged in .
Plugging and unplugging usually involves wiggling and wiggling loosens and weakens things .
Also when the Tag tester comes , how will he print "electronic Balance " on the Label if its just a loose cable .

If the teachers don't want to take it home for their dogs , it goes in the skip . Same logic as Merilyn . Bins stink long before they are collected and my stuff probably doesn't make it dramatically worse .

Wow, good find. We have one, its the same size as our flam liq, I think 200L approx. It was here when I got here. I think it's great, stores everything and easy to find it all. Thanks labbassistant I told SAM about all this and with out question and the usual rant about having no money ,BOOM , Flam...

Re: Ferrous sulphide sticks
Well I'm really having a fine time in the Chem store . After cleaning up a busted jar of Magnesium Powder , I went looking for all the Flammable solids and making a collection of them when I discovered two jars of Ferrous Sulfide have expanded and cracked the jars . I'm getting quite nervous that la...

Re: Plastic bottles/jerry cans for solutions
Found some more disintegrating Jerry Cans . These ones looked OK until I gave them a squeeze .They crumbled instead of squishing. Doubt it was 0.001HCl that did this , perhaps it had something else in it before it was repurposed . Be wary folk , seems these things may have a time limit . BTW , these...

Re: Magnesium powder for yr 12 Chemistry: Riskasses
Just discovered this . Needless to say I'm a bit nervous dealing with it . obviously it has slowly absorbed moisture as our Chem store is cold and damp and has expanded and cracked the jar . There is now a split about 1-2mm wide that is exposing more air and moisture . I'm going to keep a small amou...

Scrap metal sounds the go to me . Especially if your local Tip takes it for free . You'd most likely have to pay for general waste there .
I think I would ask the GA to get rid of it . Not your problem .
