Re: Burettes

Funny you should say that. This morning I Tried to turn the tap on a burette and it

snapped off cutting the top of two of my fingers. I'm glad I tried and not one of the students. So I am interested in the solution as well.

Re: Some Light Relief

Oh I hear ya pkij. That happens often to me and yes 8 times out of 10 its the HOD. In fact I sent out a reminder email only last week stating a few of my rules eg. Giving 24 hours notice, letting me know when pracs are finished with etc. I have to admit they have been worse since the email went out....

budget

Hi Guys After attending a Labbies PD day on Friday I discovered, after a general chitchat, as you do, that my budget for equipment and chemicals was very low compared to other schools in the region. So I thought I would get an all over Australia consensus and ask my fellow labbies what their budgets...

Re: Glocuse syrup

Hi

I make my solution up as follows:

180gm D-Glucose per litre H2O

So breaking it down you probably need 22.5gm per 125 ml H2O.

Hope that helps.

How do you get your Prac Request?

Hi Just out of interest how does everyone receive their prac requests? Here the labbie before me created a program in Access to handle all scientific requests. The program is a database of all existing experiments done at the school. All the teachers have to do is look up the particular experiment a...

Re: Risk Assessment Sheets

Hi all

The teachers do the risk assessments here also. They provide a risk level number on
each prac request; 1 being the lowest risk etc. Its all in the hands of the teachers.

All prac sheets are filed after they are finished with.

Hi Liz

What a great idea. I too was thrown in the deep end and struggle often to find things, make things, name things (especially physics equipment).

I am going to take a leaf out of your book and do the same as you. I will start today.

Thanks Nicky

Hi Sue I do clean the classrooms. The teacher puts a note in the prac tote box saying either "finished" or "leave until p3 on Thursday" etc. If there is no note I will ask the teacher via email if they have finished, they are usually pretty good. I clean all the sinks on Fridays ...

Hi Kristin,

What a great idea! Townsville too has its fair share of crocodiles and our school is right next to a creek/river. I wonder if anyone will miss the little darlings.

Have a good long weekend.
