Re: Voltameter tap

Er, Motion Lotion (KY Gel or vaso) or castor oil as above injected under pressure with a syringe will get the bugger moving!

Re: Dishwashers

We have 2x Simpson Silencio 850's here at Wadalba Community School in the science prep rooms. They have a 4 star energy rating - 558kw per year and have racks in them specially for laboratory glassware. Very good indeed.

Simple Top Tip

NapiSan Plus in warm water removes self adhesive lables on dropper bottles with zero effort! They float to the top also for easy disposal. I had hundreds to clean up and wasn't looking forward to soaking them and scraping them off but it did it for me and within an hour also. Rinse and re-use. DEAD ...

Re: hydrochloric acid fumes

Make sure you get the odourless tin of fish oil if you can! Fishoil works great for preventing the stains but unless you want you chem store to smell like an old fishermans jumper for weeks after applying it steer clear of it and use parrafin.

We use plastic petri dishes also and the crystals pop out in one go when we've finished with them with a twist of the dish. Couldn't be easier!

Fibre Optic Cable

G'day all!
Does anyone know an excellent way of rounding/polishing the ends of fibre optic cable. If it's cut with scissors or stanley knife it doesn't transmit light very well at all to the other end no matter how carefully you do it! Any ideas?

Depends on the ability and drive of the cleaners. Ours are hopeless on anything but floors. I'd rather do it methodically myself if I've got time - I'll know it's done properley that way. The teachers should use the labels to let me know the status of the equipment on the trollies, if not, I assume ...

We have Logit Datameter 1000's. Do you think their too old for this course to be relevant? Let me know as it's too expensive to waste money on if I'm not going to get anything from it!!! Thanks for the advice - I assumed it was for all data loggers.

We have a couple of teachers who are incapable of returning anything to the prep room - funnily enough, they're the biggest borrowers so I just assume they have finished using the equipment, I clean it and place it away. They don't know what they want unless I tell them!

A small amount of Parrafin or vaseline will do it. Then there is no trouble holding the tubing 'cause there ain't so much resistance. :-)

I have a 6 foot saltwater tank here in one of my labs, could you post one that would fit, down to the NSW Central Coast? I'd have the bugger fattened up in no time. Just bung a stamp on him and a warning arrow pointing to his front bitey section marked "caution" and pop him in the nearest ...

Is it an older car that's not fuel injected? That sounds more like pre-ignition, that occurs where carbon deposits (or old spark plugs) glow hot even after the car has been turned off thus igniting the residual fuel - it has even been known to turn an engine over backwards!

Fuel vapour refers to LPG and/or hydrogen powered vehicles. All internal combustion vehicles require the fuel to be reduced to a mist or jet spray to metre the exact amount required for proper combustion. Carburettors use "jets". These are tubes that link the fuel bowl to the throat of the...

Thanks again

Eddie Bishop - Equipment repairer

After my post this morning r.e. getting our volt and amp metres repaired, I spoke to Eddie Bishop who would be prepared to travel to Newcastle/Central Coast if demand justifies it. If keen, phone/fax him in Sydney on (02) 46311056 and he'll organise a time to come and see us all. I'm up to my ears i...
