Re: printers
We have a printer in our prep room. We get our ink and paper from the print room. As far as I know it comes from the school budget. I've never had to purchase or ask if it comes out of our budget.

Re: Year 12 Biology Depth Studies
I had a teacher come asking for us to buy a non-pathogenic bacteria for a students depth study. Does anyone know where I could buy a sample of something like this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: standardized NaOH
Hi all, Can someone explain making a primary standard to me? I do not understand this at all. We have some made up from the previous labbie but she retired and I'll need to make more. We used 0.1m oxalic as the primary standard and 0.1 NaOH (unknown conc to the students), but do I just make up 0.1m ...

Re: Risk Assessment
I'm not sure if this is necessarily valid anymore since CSIS is 20 years old, but I found this in our hard copy of appendix D

We use 10% oxalic acid for cleaning glassware, could give it a go, not sure if it will work if it's been etched though...

Re: Ammonium hydroxide solution
Hi all, I'm a little confused with ammonia... We have some droppers labelled Ammonia solution 0.1m, and then we have ammonium hydroxide solution 0.1m. I was having a google and I'm not 100% sure but is ammonia the same as ammonium hydroxide? Or is ammonia the gas and ammonium hydroxide the solution...

Re: White crystal around sodium hydroxide solution bottles
That happened to us too with sodium hydroxide and HCl, both quite strong concentrations around 8M. I just did as suggested. Had a cloth with water and wiped it away. This was last term and I went to the chemstore and saw it's started to recrystalise again. Continuing jobs....

Re: Chemical store Room
Hi all!
I've been organising our chemstore and was wondering if anyone else has Iron (II) chloride? It isn't listed in CSIS, and chemwatch has it as class 8 so that's where I'll be storing it, just wanted to confirm with others this is correct? It's not listed? And do you have it in your school?

Re: waste bottle labels
Where did you find this out? Are you DoE school? I was having a look at CSIS and I can't find anything that says you can store all metals together (other than heavy metals) but things like silver, copper, lead were separate. And we have SO many waste bottles that if what your saying is correct, will...

Degassed Water
Hi all,
We've been asked to make up degassed water. We've had a quick google and found that it says to simmer for 20 mins and let cool. Our plan is to do this the day before and seal in a bottle where there is no air bubble to 'regas' the water.
Has anyone done this before?
Thanks

Re: waste bottle labels
We have individual waste bottles, eg, silver, lead, copper etc. We don't have a nitrates waste. If we should have one please let me know!
