Re: projectile launcher landing pad

So, just wondering if anyone has bought carbon paper recently?? I'm down to my last 2 sheets and before I go searching the shops etc I thought one of you lovely people may have tracked some down. I remember last time I looked (and it was several years ago now) it was difficult to come across. Thanks!

Re: air conditioners in school

There are some rooms across the school with aircon here, but out of the 7 science labs, only 2 are lucky enough to have it. Teachers comment about the difference btween the students who work in those labs in the hot, humid weather. The office, printroom, library and principal and deputies have it su...

Re: new lab (s)

LOVE the new labs and the colour scheme! Seems we're unlikely to get new labs at the moment and our labs are old!! Work was to have happened but has been withdrawn. I guess at least I don't have to pack up the place - my back is dodgy at the best of times!

Re: How do you Organize Your Rocks & Minerals

We have ours arranged in one of our storerooms in "Minerals", "Sedimentary", "Igneous" and "Metamorphic". Each is assigned a number and the number is written on the specimen. It was done like that befiore I started here, I've just tidied it up a little. The ro...

Re: Old Molecular Model Kits

As far as the springs go, you can buy that plastic coated spring wire that is used to hang curtains bought ours at Spotlight ages ago, maybe Bunnings have it too??. We cut the plastic coating off, cut the wire into short lengths and used it quite successfully with our old kits!

Re: Dry Ice

Thanks for that Trish! A lady at Norco here has since said we can get a kilo or two when they get their order if we contact her. So that information fits with yours. Thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions - this forum is great for sharing and solving problems.

Re: Dry Ice

Oh, another thing. I contacted Glen Sawle outling iour problem sourcing dry ice, thinking that maybe we were no longer able to use dry ice in schools. His reply was that "no problems with using it in a demonstration - you are just not able to hand it out to students. This is predominantly becau...

Re: Dry Ice

OK so here is the latest - everyone I tried said BOC is the place to get it! At the moment we have a Science Fair happening run by Macquarie Uni and they were told by BOC they don't have it BUT they could order it in from Caboolture for them if they ordered 78kg!! So they did and they collect it as ...

Re: Dry Ice

Well BOC say they don't carry the dry ice anymore and they don't know who does. Elgas don't either and they suggested a party hire place. Have left a message with them and am waiting for a reply!

Re: Acid Attack

How awful for the mum and lttle children. Hopefully they will all be OK. A lot of those easily available, domestic shower cleaners contain phosphoric acid so maybe that was what it was rather than an alkaline substance!

Dry Ice

Do any of you who work on the NSW North Coast know where we can now buy dry ice. Apparently BOC no longer have it available and couldn't say where we may now get it. Thank you for any ideas! [-o<

In the past I've bought it from Q Stores but I don't know if Officemax can supply it. You could contact them and ask. Otherwise check with Serrata, Livingstone and other suppliers. They seem to alter their range between catalogues!

Yes we all get paid the same with the DET, degree or not, which I have. Still it is my choice to work here and I quite enjoy my work and the people I work with (well most anyway). Can't complain about the holidays either!

Re: Cleaning glassware

Yes that's true. I do find the Detcon makes the glassware "sparkle". Think maybe I'll keep it for me (I do most of the washing up anyway) and then give the teachers access to some cheap supermarket stuff (something they're familiar with 8-[ ) in future for the odd occaision they get the ki...

Re: Cleaning glassware

Do you happen to know the price, Lada? I checked Officemax this morning and it's $33.79 a litre. I like it too, what dilution do you use? I tend to use just a tiny drop. Don't want the teachers to get their hands on it though so have been giving them a small container of Pyroneg which they can measu...

Cleaning glassware

Just wondering what detergent everyone else like me, who isn't lucky enough to have a dishwasher, is using to wash their glassware??? Are you using a specialty glassware detergent like Pyroneg or Detcon? Where do you buy it?

Re: Whats happening in the Holidays

I'll be enjoying a 4 night trip down to Melbourne, in the first week. In the second I have to have another skin cancer cut out (my 7th - darn that Scottish skin!)but will still have time to catch up with friends and potter around the house, something as you know we never have a chance to do in term ...
