We let the kids use wire loops for the FeCl3. Gives them practice!! And shows them there are different ways of doing flame tests.
Will let you know - going off to pull them out of the hot water & then use the HCl......

I think all the single use instant cold packs are ammonium nitrate... Ours was an unused one - we didn't rupture the inner liquid pouch - just opened it & kept the round granules of the ammonium nitrate. Naughty :redcard: ............. but cool! :thumbup: Better still - do the exothermic / endot...

Clogged aerosol pumps
Hi Everyone, Hope you're all having a wonderful day so far! A teacher recently put copper carbonate in my flame test aerosols & it has clogged up the pump bits. I've tried soaking them in cold & hot water but only helps a tiny bit.... does anyone know how I can clean them out? Another chemic...

Hi Everyone, Was wondering if any kind labbie out there would have some spare Stick Insect eggs or any other insect for that matter - would love rhino beetles too!?! Not sure that the rhinos come via eggs?! Only one of my last lot hatched & he died recently... RIP Egbert Stickbert :cry2: ..........

Hi Kay, no only use fishing line in place of sailors line....!
Flame tests - we use solutions in aerosols & wire loops for some chemicals that don't like going in the aerosol bottles.

Hi Rell, I'm in Vic too but couldn't find anything on dry ice. We recently had a yr 8 teacher do dry ice to make icecream. I decided that all I could do was warn & make sure they did the risk assessment appropriately. They are supposed to be trained & be safety conscious. I have a work book ...
