Re: PEANUT Labels

Hi Pommy,
I left NSW at the end of 2006 and the schools I worked at were peanut free including the canteen. They were private schools so maybe it is different in Dept schools.
Science kept no peanuts even for food tests and for the energy prac we used Tiny Ted biscuits

Hi Tracy,
When you read the document you will see H2SO4 and sugar is a teacher dem in the fumehood.
Banned expts is a loose title as some can be done in a fumehood by the teacher.
The document pre-dates CSIS by several years.
Our school does not have scanning ability...I know, unbelievable!!!

Lisa, Chloroform.....spontaneously oxidises in the presence of air to produce phosgene(it can happen whilst in the bottle). At the x3 schools I worked at in NSW(private) it was removed from the school by waste experts...do not give it to the teacher...it is illegal to transport chemicals like this i...

Yes broth is the one. I have sterilised in the microwave however I prefer a pressure cooker or autoclave...15 mins at 15 psi. Sterile swabs are great as well you can use inoculating loops. When you are sterilising the agar you can wrap some cotton buds in foil and put them in the pressure cooker and...

This experiment was banned in NSW when CSIS came in.
If the teacher is still keen perhaps a demonstration by him inthe fumehood!!!!!!
I have bee a labbie in schools in Sydney for 20 years and the schools where I worked stopped this experiment 18 years ago.
