Re: how do you identify classroom glassware
We couldn't do the whole glassware out on the trolley and it comes back, we had 13 pracs running today over 2 floors, it would have been a nightmare. I do love how you guys have it so sorted that it works for you though Saves the annual stocktake

Re: how do you identify classroom glassware
I don't worry about glassware being returned to specific labs. I just work on each lab has a certain number of items, have some spares in the prep room and top up from those if the other items are being washed. This reduces your stress if you are busy and fall behind in washing up - anything can go...

Re: data loggers
Anna, Did you have to buy the software package as well or is the free app enough to run everything? Free app for a few things, but generally you need Sparkview, it is an initial purchase when you buy some of their gear and then you have it for life with free upgrades. We also use the Capstone softw...

Re: Carbon Dioxide Meter
You're spot on Rosalie - measuring CO2 levels is an indication of the ventilation in the room. If levels increase when people are in the room, it can show that ventilation is inadequate. Bing Lee are selling an indoor weather station which also has a CO2 monitor (Netatmo). Airmet are selling CO2 mo...

Re: Carbon Dioxide Meter
...and the bonus would be you get a CO2 probe for future pracs in class. We use Pasco CO2 probes and I would go that option. So same as your thoughts with the Vernier gear. last year I set one up just to see how they went in one of our poorly ventilated labs (nothing to do with Covid)...and surprise...

Re: Chemistry at home - year 8
White flowers and food dye. A bit boring and maybe a little young for Grade 8. I did a celery stick with lots of leaves on the top a few weeks back, splitting it in half to the middle. Gently place each side in a different colour carefully so as not to snap off. Half in blue and half in red. The res...

Re: cobalt (II) chloride
We don't use Cobalt (in any form) at all anymore, I've removed it all due to it's environmental and health affects. Asked people to find alternatives and surprisingly when you ask them to find a less nasty chemical they always do. Just have to push them out of their old ways. I Hi Anna What do you ...

Re: gloves
We have also noticed many are only selling the boxes of 100 now...much to my dismay. Our gloves holders are made for the 200 boxes and the 100 boxes just don't fit right. :( students pullingt hem out and we find them all over the place. I think even Westlab didn't have the 200.

We generally go with this ratio, but all teachers are different and mix and match.
1 citric acid : 8 icing sugar : 12 jelly crystal : 1 baking soda
