prepared slides - codes
Does anyone know what v.s. means on the prepared slides? I can work out/look up most of the others but this one I am stumped on. Specifically looking at a lung tissue sample, but I know I've seen it on other slides as well. Google hasn't helped!

Re: grease pencil
I'd be interested, too. How long do they last on glass? How easy is it to remove? I agree - students would be less likely to write on desks etc with them. We actually used to use them on the BA board and tally tags (to keep track of where everyone is on the fire ground etc) when I was a fire fighte...

Re: grease pencil
OK perhaps I should have googled first! They are the same as a chinagraph pencil. I've just never seen coloured ones before! Anyway, I'm still interested in learning if anyone uses them at school

grease pencil
Has anyone ever heard of these? https://www.chemtalk.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=451/product/42055/grease-pencil-for-glass-writing/ If the link doesn't work, go to Wiltronics and look up grease pencil. They are obviously more expensive than permanent markers, but possibly less risky for being st...

Re: Mineral and rock safety alert
I was here for the start of it (2011 - I'm RosalieM on page 1) but not the 2015/2016 discussion. I've printed out the document linked from November 2015 which looks kind of official and put it with the rocks to deal with later!

I decided to set mine after all. I came in this morning to two pracs, both ordered and done this morning before I arrived. They knew I was going to be late today and got their own stuff out, but still...

Re: Mineral and rock safety alert
What ended up happening with these rock sample kits? I have no idea how old ours are. I am currently sorting and relocating them (and by "I", I mean mostly the teacher who has a background in geology!) so it's a good time to make sure we don't have things we shouldn't...

copper ore
Has anyone on here ever bought real copper ore? Not looking for the "home made" stuff we use in science. The Ancient History teacher has asked me about it! I said I'd see if I can find out where/how to get some. I haven't ever needed to purchase rocks/geology stuff so don't even know where...

Re: Ordering for Practical Lessons
I've only just found on Riskassess there is a Warning on short-notice bookings / Cut-off time if you go into the tools section. I don't know if I'm game to set ours most give me 2 days notice but HT believes 11pm friday is fine for 9.10 Monday :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: Would love to know if anyone...

Re: Limit on number of Practicals done each week?
Sarah B, I find that there are really busy weeks when the prep room ends up looking like a cyclone hit and then there are quiet weeks when I can catch up and put things away. The teachers should be doing the risk assessments themselves and you should only be doing the risk assessment for the work yo...

Re: Microscope repairs/ servicing in Newcastle
Hi Just wondering who to use in the Newcastle area for servicing microscopes? Just wondering if you found someone? Also, does anyone know if there's a course I can do to refresh my microscope cleaning skills? I did a session back when the St Mary's conferences were a thing.... then was out of scien...

Re: Ordering for Practical Lessons
Jumping in on an old thread here... Just wondering who still prints out the RAs if you use RiskAssess? Also, a thought on NSW DoE not needing to do RAs because of the CSIS, how many teachers actually reference the CSIS when ordering their pracs? Do they check each time that the chemical hasn't been ...

Re: Slowing down agar plate growth?
Are you able to take a photo of them for him? or one of the teachers? The only potential "problem" I can think of would be if condensation formed inside it might go a little weird... are there other plates in the incubator? Can you just turn it down to whatever the lowest setting is or wil...
