Re: Fake "poo" recipe?

The things I learn on this site will never cease to amaze me... :cheesy:

I'm printing out that recipe for future reference! Only thing is, do I file under 'F' for fake or 'P' for poo??

Re: Safe Work Procedures?? Risk assessment

I believe a SOP is for a plant equipment, one that sits their all the time. It is the operational steps used to start that item up. 1. Plug in, 2, set blue knob to 4, 3, closed door. That sort of thing. Yes, I think you're right. And I think that side of things should not be too hard to set up. It'...

Re: Safe Work Procedures?? Risk assessment

Sassi - Bless you! You're an angel :D I am having a thorough read of it right now. I think I will need to produce something similar that is specialised for our department, as the current policy is non-existent! Did you just reference CSIS, or any other docs like the Australian Standards or anything?...

Re: ID & Password for access to CSIS/Chemwatch

rosiegbh - I had a similar problem, and after waiting and waiting for weeks for help, my collegue and I finally figured out the problem: I had the incorrect URL for the Chemwatch website (apparently there is several different accesses to 'chemwatch gold II' and I had gotten the wrong one somehow! Safe Work Procedures?? Risk assessment

Hi all, I'm aware that there have been many topics on similar subjects to this, but I have spent most of the morning reading old topics and I still feel somewhat bamboozled... so I thought I'd start a topic to try and fill the gaps  Back at the end of last Term, I attended an AIS Training d...

Re: Won't do that again!

Ocker - 'Yes dear' Ahhh, my two favourite words LOL Congrats on 28 years! I married at 19, and when told (repeatedly) by my 'friends' that I was 'throwing away my freedom' I had perfected the reply: "I'm not throwing away my freedom, I'm stealing someone else's!" :clap3: 6 years now and ha...

Can anyone explain why...

... you use a bit of 0.1M sulfuric acid in the water when making up copper sulfate solution??? :? I just noticed in the common solutions section of "The Laboratory Resource Guide" Book, that it says 49.9g CuSO4, added to distilled water with 15mL of H2SO4 (0.1M) then made up to 1L with dis...

Re: Rinse aid for glassware??

Well, I rinsed them in the tiniest amount of rinse aid in water, then rinsed each one three or four times in distilled water, set them out to dry, and went home feeling very satisfied with my efforts... BUT - alas, this morning when I arrived, I realised that the place I had put them all to dry has ...

Re: Rinse aid for glassware??

Thanks Sassi and Lada for your replies, I kind of figured the same thing - that Rinse Aid might interfere with the result: but when I asked my HT he said that he wants them rinsed in Rinse Aid so that they 'flow evenly' or something. I've washed and rinsed them all really thoroughly, so it's just th...

Re: Banned experiments

Thanks Sue and Lorrae, I will direct my teach's to the 'official word'! I had my suspicions that it was a no-go :-( I haven't done the OHS course yet, I'm enrolled for one on 2nd April, and am still wading my way through CSIS in depth, as until now I have only had a 'basic working knowledge' of the ...

Preparing slides of plant material

Greetings, knowledgable ones  I'm wondering if anyone with a bit more expertise in biology has some ideas for me. I've been asked by a teacher here to share a lesson helping kids in Yr 8 to prepare their own slides of plant material. Mostly the kids use pre-prepared slides, but we don't hav...

Thanks for the welcome, Lisa :D Yep, my ex-fellow teachers have been joking with me that I have 'crossed over to the Dark Side' LOL. However, I always got on really well with the lovely lab techs at my last school, and I am now gaining a true appreciation for their hard work and effort. I've been fo...

Re: Lab assistant by choice.

Yep! I'm a Science Teacher by qualification, but... Today is my fourth day as a lab tech and I am loving it. So much nicer than teaching! I wanted to return to work part-time after having my son (who is nearly 2) but the thought of teaching and all the 'at home' work just made me put it of...
