Re: Swan neck tubes

Hi Helen,
Yes we bend our own glass tubing. When I got to our school we had lots of glass tubing already here and decided to bend ourselves, so I've never looked online for a supplier.

Re: Flame Test

Hi all,
I was looking for info on flame tests and saw my above post which I said we use strontium chloride which is incorrect. We use strontium carbonate.
But my question is does anyone use strontium chloride? We have lots and have run out of strontium carbonate. Does it show the same colour?

Re: Iron III Nitrate

I'm sure it's only Iron (II) nitrate that needs to be made fresh. We've got droppers of Iron (III) nitrate that sit and wait to be used and no issues with it

Re: Banned from 1 NOV

Yes. I was listening and we cannot use them at all but they then said we can if it isn’t for a ‘supplied’ use like catering but if it’s used for experiments and can be reused it’s ok? So I hope this doesn’t mean we will get in trouble if audited. That’s how I understand it and now I’m not sure if we...

Re: Stocktake programs

Hi All, I've started using chemwatch for our stocktake, and I've added chemicals to each class, or location etc. but can anyone tell me if the SDS's get automatically updated? Previously we have downloaded them and saved as PDF's onto our computer, and we have an excel sheet with the issue dates and...

Re: Ferrous sulphide sticks

Wow, good find.
We have one, its the same size as our flam liq, I think 200L approx. It was here when I got here. I think it's great, stores everything and easy to find it all.

Re: storage of corrosives

I did, I asked if they can take the old one to be disposed of but they don't, and they just said if there wasn't a spill it could probably be a general waste or maybe a metal recycling place.
Just thought I'd post the question hoping someone might know

Re: storage of corrosives

Hi, has anyone ever disposed of a corrosives cabinet, is it ok to just be put with general waste (there has been no spills in it) so i assume its fine.
Thought I'd ask.
Thanks

Re: Sodium Hydroxide solution on Risk assess

So for example, if you were asked for 1M sodium hydroxide in dropper bottles, and your label on them were the ones from risk assess, without the haz/precautionary statements, would you print a mini SDS for the prac, so they have the safety information on hand?

That makes sense. It's a nightmare trying to fit all the statements onto a label

I've just been asked for blue ice cubes for tomorrow, I've got them in the freezer now with the salt method.
Thanks so much bigmack for doing that last year. I remember reading it and had to go and find it.

Re: Sodium Hydroxide solution on Risk assess

I've never used risk assess for labeling as we have saved labels on our drive, but I was having a go and I put in Acetone to see what it looks like, and it didn't have the precautionary statements or hazard statements. Isn't having those a requirement for GHS labels? If you were after the pure liqu...
