It would be a huge job, moving interstate, and starting a new job in the space of a few weeks, though it sounds like you have a few rellies to help yo...

Re: Planetarium working model
Hi Sue, I got an excellent one from K-Mart in the pre-xmas sales in December. It talks, rotates all the planets around, has a quizz button, and other features. Probably won't stand up to too much student "activity", but for $29, it beats the scientific ones in the budget stakes. I would sc...

Re: Nutrient agar plates
Julie, Wendy, Wayne and RosalieM,
I have sent the slideshow to you tonight. Sorry it took me a while. Friday, I was on a training day(out of school) and today was a public holiday in S.A. so I have been enjoying a long weekend.
Let me know of any problems.
Cheers,
Lisa

Re: Do you go to faculity meetings?
When I started at this school last year, I was invited to the first faculty meeting, introduced to the staff, then the staff were told that they were very lucky to have me( I filled the position the day before school started) and to be nice. Since then, I am invited to, and attend our fortnightly me...

Re: Written down prep time
Hi Pommy, Because I only work three days a week, My HOD and I asked for a weeks notice, but you can imagine how hard that can be to grasp. I think it should be up to the labbie to determine what is a reasonable time, according to working conditions. As Noona said, in the real world, there will alway...

Re: Nutrient agar plates
Hi Narelle, I have a great slideshow, which has pictures of, and names, various growths on agar plates. I have tried to attach it, but unfortunately, the file is too big. If you could provide me with an email address, (either p.m or on this forum) I would be happy to send it on. I'm sure you would f...

Lizzie, It sounds like you have had one hell of a week, and my condolences to you and your family. It appears though, like me, you always look on the bright side, and know there are always people a lot worse off than yourself. So I am glad you enjoyed the concert, and it's lovely to hear there is st...

Re: New Bunsen Burners
Ocker, Like Ellice said, micro burners are just small bunsens. There is no difference in price between the LPG and natural gas ones, but I can't believe the difference between micro and standard. Coxy, Thanks for posting. Yes it was you I was talking about. The bunsens shown in my Westlab catalogue ...

Re: New Bunsen Burners
Hi, Thanks Lyn, for the info, but Omega is the supplier I was speaking of, and currently use. The standard burners are $14.30 in my current catalogue, but I am after micro burners, and they are $25.30, although now, I am thinking of getting a mix of both, to keep costs down. Thanks again. Lizzie B, ...

Re: How to class chemicals
Hi Cindy, Organic acids go in the Corrosives cupboard. My cupboard resembles a 2 door pantry cupboard. In one side, I have the "acids", in the other, the alkalis. Then, in the acid side, I have separated the organic and inorganic onto separate shelves, in alphabetical order, and of course,...

New Bunsen Burners
Hi All, Late last year, I remember someone mentioning that they had bought some Bunsen Burners, and that they were happy with the quality, price etc. I have tried searching the forums, but have not come across that bit. I am in the market for some new ones,(we use micro burners) and would appreciate...

Welcome Megz, It must be funny as an "ex" teacher, to read on this site all our whingeing about them!! But honestly, they can make your job a misery, or a pleasure. I hope you enjoy the Chemtalk site. I'm sure I speak for most, when I say you'll wonder how you ever got by without it after ...

Hi All, I actually started back at work on the 12th, but I've been head-down, bum-up in my compactus until today. I got heaps done, but the "little darlings" came back on Tuesday, and ruined all that peace and quiet!! Wendy, sorry to hear about your leg. I hope the cast doesn't get itchy i...
