I have read about recipes for fake Poo and a mountant for hair micro slides. Now I don't want to appear too dumb but how do I go about getting a copy of some of your wonderful and helpful suggestions?

Re: Need ideas for lab refurbishment
Great ideas from Trish. A few more thoughts quickly. Lots of storage space. Drawers, depth suitable for proposed contents, are more user friiendly than cupboards. I wanted sinks flush with benchtops, so you can clean bench easly, but didn't win that one. Powerpoints - think about placement design an...

Re: Flowers for Dissection
Petunias are good as long they realise the five petals are fused. they grow easly and produce many flowers.
Lilies like Princess lily, are also big and clear for petals and stamens.
Complicated flowers or daisy flowers are unsuitable for beginners.

Re: Potassium permangate
Thanks, and to Robb and Sue from a previous entry. I now have enough info to probably not filter the fresh one and not keep it too long. Or use paper if needed. It was great to get such quick replys.

Potassium permangate
I am making up a 0.02M solution of potassium permanganate. Instructions are dissolve by heating and then when cool filter through glass wool. We have no glass wool. Would ceramic wool be just as good , or can I use filter paper?

Re: St Mary's Lab Assistans Conference
Hallo Noona, Reading entries in the forums I hear how helpful St Marys Conference is, so I have been wondering if/how I could attend. Now I know a bit. Do you send out information at some stage about registering etc? And could you add me to the mailing list please. Dates sound possible. Thanks Rosal...

Combustion boats
In my store of "tricks' I have some little porcelain things called combustion boats. What are they used for? Or what can they be used for?
Thanks, Rosalie (another one)

Re: Glassware in labs?
Changing the subject slightly. I was interested in Loopy's photos of lab benches. These have the same sinks we have which I am not happy with because the lip is above the level of the bench, so that you can not wipe water from bench straight into sink. I consider this a design problem. Is it? Also g...

Quest 2, textbook for year 8 has an experiment for exploring rate of reaction using chalk with hydrochloric acid. What do people use? Is the blackboard chalk used nowadays which is probably calcium sulphate rather than calcium carbonate OK. The idea is to think of grinding it to increase surface are...

Re: precipitation prac
Am i stupid or something, but why must you get a precipitate of silver sulphate? An experiment is to record what happened. Anyway text book Quest 4 says "Compounds containing the SO 4 ion are soluble except for Ba, Pb and Ca. Some compounds are slightly soluble. These include Ca(OH) 2 , PbCl 2 ...

Lead iodide removal
In Science World 10, Lead Iodide precipitate is heated in a test tube to release Iodine gas. Good! But the left over gunk in the bottom of test tube wants to stay there. Any suggestions to remove it?
