Casual employment 2013 Sydney? Or not?

Post by Labtechie70 »

Hi Everyone,

My temp contract will come to an end at the end of this year, as the person I filled in for
will be returning after long leave. I remember reading in another post about how useful it would
be if there were lab techies available on a casual basis, eg. to cover for sick leave, study leave or
any other short term reasons or just simply if workload was hectic for a while.

So, what I'm really asking is, do you think there will be enough work to stay casual and earn at least a part-time salary
of around 20 hours a week? Or should I just focus on finding a proper job?
I am limiting this idea to the northern beaches in Sydney.

Your thoughts please! Thanks in advance for your comments!

I work for independent school and if I am away for a day, they do not replace me, so there may not be enough work in independent schools. I am not sure, how it works in states schools. There should be some job ads coming up early next term.

I am in the same boat as Lada. i don't get replaced,if i know i am going to be away I have to get the work done for that day before hand. :-(
Sorry..
With the government looking at slashing funds to schools,i am guessing support staff hours will be the first to go. :redcard:
