Someone the other day mentioned using silvo (for cleaning silver jewellery) I haven't tried, but can't hurt.

I think it was Dr Robb that told me to use iodine first then ethanol. It works well on "fresh" stains. Takes a couple of times for older stains.

Hi Edge,
Am looking at my old stain removal sheet & to remove silver nitrate it says:
1) for old stains use conc acetic acid before using
2) potassium iodide followed by water.I have also found a 55 solution of sodium thiosulphate works well too.Hope you gets lots of workable suggestions.

0.1M Sodium Thiosulfate worked for me when a lovely child dropped a test tube with silver nitrate in it onto the floor, smashed and then walked in it. I had lovely foot prints of silver nitrate over the floor!!@

Re: Cleaning Silver Nitrate solution from bench tops!
We have white benchtops - magnet for silver stains! We have removed about 95% of Ag stains by first treating with a thiosulfate, scrubbing, then using a creme cleanser (jif) and scrubbing. Unfortunately, the main ingredient is elbow grease.
We now provide a spray bottle of weak thiosulfate to the class whenever silver nitrate is required as this will prevent any silver spills from forming stains. The use of newspaper to cover the benches is also encouraged.

Hi everyone, tried Silvo on our silver nitrate stains on white benches... Left it on for 30min, removed it & then scrubbed with damp non-scratchy steel wool. Disappeared like magic!!!!!!!! Mind you there was a bit of scrubbing!
Thanks for the tips!!

Try sodium thiosulfate.
