BioViewers - Who uses them?

Post by Narelle01 »

I just pulled ours out for a class, they look pretty good, esp for a jnr class instead of microscopes?

Yep - we use them. They are great. Sadly they don't get used as much as I think they should, but it's not up to me!

we use them all the time, especially for juniors. We have slides on cells, rocks, chromosomes, digestive system etc.
The slides come in cards that have a little information which the kids can use. This ables us to keep the precious slides for seniors. they are easy to maintain and clean too.
Start using them, we do

are you able to buy the slides anymore? Or where from?
We seem to only have a very narrow selection of blood & plant cells....

I just had a look at the Southern Biological site and found a great pic of a bio viewer.
they are like a microscope, but instead of glass slides the pics are on like a negative strip (remember when you used to get your photos developed??) and you slide it thru a slot have a look thru the eye piece and can see clearly what you are supposed to be looking at.

The slides come in a litle folder with info that the students also read...

Very interesting, might see what else they have that we can look at!

I have pushed them recently, after they gathered dust for years. Most of the slide sets are spot on, and the info folder bizzo the slides go into are usually good value.

:clap3: Hey thanks guys, I found a whole set of these slides a while ago and nobody here seemed to know what they were used in - so now all I have to do is find the bioviewers :giggle:. It's amazing how much equipment etc gets hidden around here - I have been in the job a year and a half now and am still finding stuff I didn't know we had...!!!

Had them at 2 schools I have worked at in the past, 1 used them all the time with juniors and the other never used them, such a waste, I think they are great, easy to use, no lamps, and there is a good selection of viewing slides. I am glad you guys mentioned them, I am going to try to get them here :clap3:

I have been here 1 term and and still finidng my way around....if i can't find something, i stop looking and move on to the next prac to find stuff for, then i end up finding stuff for the first...
We are 1 term post refurbishment too, so its still a little bit of a mess here, although getting more functional by the day.
I think the staff are scared i have thrown all their stuff away!!! LOL

Oh and nope, not giving my bio viewers away, but i do have about 12 bell jars ...LOL :boring:
