You can model the Peppered moth scenario.
50 green toothpicks 50 red toothpick. Throw them over an area of grass. Give a class 5 minutes to find as many as they can. Count them up to see the change in the toothpick population/species. (food colouring for the toothpicks)

Just google - M&M survival challenge. It will take you to a site called Science Buddies. It involves finding M&M's on coloured sheets of paper or cardboard. Comes with a prac printout.

A big welcome Matt from us all, in lab land. I am sure you will enjoy your daily chemtalk meetings with us. That sounds like a good idea.

We do a fun prac called 'bird beaks & natural selection'......it gets pretty noisy with the kids in a feeding frenzy :giggle: but it works well & they get the concept.

We do the red and green toothpicks as well - a suggestion, make up extra green toothpicks!
