Hi guys I need your help here. I have just got an email from a teacher asking; "Do you think it would be possible to ignite a Big Mac burger, perhaps with some encouragement from a volatile but transparent substance?
I want to come up with some sort of engaging demo for Year 7.
Thoughts???"
Is it possible? Even if it is, is it safe? This one has me a little stumped.
To put it into some context it is for an integrated unit in nutrition.

Re: Burning Big Mac
Why don't you just get them to make a flame ball, it will hold their attention

Re: Burning Big Mac
Is it to look at the food energy of a Big Mac? You could do a calorimetry experiment, with 100mL of water in an aluminium can, and use the Big Mac as fuel, but it could be better to cut it into a piece of specific weight.

Re: Burning Big Mac
It is to look at how much energy there is, but don't want to quantifiy it. They just want to burn a Big Mac.

Perhaps if you ignited it with a bunsen? Make sure you post photos here if you try!!
