Iron Sulphide Residues
Has anyone got any tips for cleaning iron sulphide residues out of test tubes??

Main tip: Do not use acid!
FeS + 2 HCl = FeCl2 + H2S (g)
Try a potassium permanganate wash.
3 FeS + 8 KMnO4 + 4 H2O = 3 FeSO4 + 8 MnO2 + 8 KOH

Hammer - the only way!
Based on the formula: stress x cost of cleaning agent x time taken to clean tubes versus cost of new test tubes = hammer

Thanks for your replies. Yes the hammer formula sounds good. However will try the potassium permanganate wash.
