Dichloromethane is not banned??? when?? by whom? I thought it is allowed for 11-12. CSIS pg 99

Yes, it is allowed for 11-12. Dont like using it, it is chlorinated hydrocarbon, possible carcinogen, and depleteds ozone layer.

We don't have CSIS here in Qld, so can't refer to it. We are told to read the SDS and make a decision from that. It is classed as a Toxic substance, and the material and container must be disposed of a hazardous waste, therefore deemed by us as a chemical not to be used in a school.
From RiskAssess: Appropriate for use by 11-12 students. Potential hazards - Moderately toxic; suspected to be weakly carcinogenic; highly volatile; do not inhale vapours; lung irritant; toxic by absorption through skin.
Anyway, a teacher wants to use it for Y10 SiP......

Not sure what you are allowed to use over there. Found this one that uses hexane and isopropyl alcohol. http://oxytops.wordpress.com/2012/10/31 ... -tea-bags/
