Saponification

Post by Loopy »

Hello Chemtalk family,
Can anyone help me with a tried and true saponification recipe? My boss hasn't done this for a while and being as busy as a trout swimming upstream has been unable to pass on this prac. to me for the senior chem students. I don't know how I would survive without this network!
Regards,
Lou.

Hi loopy
We use this one for quick demonstration but if you want something more serious the type soap making in search engine and you will find 100 recipes.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

We have recently begun replacing lard with copha, in an attempt at cross-cultural sensitivity. Muslim kids can be "contaminated" by contacting pig fat, and Hindu kids have issues with suet, so copha is an acceptable alternative.

However, I still find that results vary so much that for an ideal outcome one becomes reliant on whether the moon is in the 4th quandrant of Venus etc etc!

Cheers, K 8-)
