Lab upgrade ideas 2024

Post by Matt_Coffs »

Hi everyone,
We're getting some lab refurbishments and looking for some design ideas. We'll have to keep the front teacher bench, 8 student benches (around the outside), shower/eyewash and main sink / drying rack all in the same locations but they will be updated. My question is regarding other cabinetry i.e. glassware storage, display cabinets etc. Does anyone have anything modern looking yet functional in their labs?

You could always go the open cupboard style with Gratnells trolleys for equipment, that way when not in use stashed under benches and easily moved to other laboratories when needed so you never have to double up on things.

How may labs do you have ?

I have an actual small windowed room for display, like a shop front. It was where the corridor was blocked in though. I have a special high shelf for the airtrack. The equipment store room has windows to a classroom and glass shelving with big sliding melamine doors on my hand side so I have a stack of stuff always on display. It is only accessible from my prep room. We put in a "lockable servery' counter from the main storage room to classroom so no-one comes in, I unlock it and put microscopes out etc, saves on the trolleys. We have a movable teacher bench which can roll out as the fumehood is too close behind it for kids to see anything, the gas and sink etc is a little hub the bench can connect to. Kitchen double sink with hot water down the back of the class prac room. Class sets of equipment under prac benches. We had very little money so we had to design it with lots of cheap ideas.
