Repair Bench

Post by LabTechBrooke »

Have you set up a repair bench for yourself? I want to organise a dedicated space, and would love to see how others have done it. At the moment I have everything on a desk, but it is so disorganised, you can't actually sit at it!

I would love to see photos of your set up, or your dream set up! Inspire me!

I would love this also. I have a section of bench that has become the dumping ground of all things broken but I don't have the space to work on them! My prep room area is very small.

Never had a dedicated bench, but was able to have a cupboard.
But be savage - consider if something can be repaired, how difficult it will be to repair, the cost of repair (including your time) before you store it. You maybe better off binning it and buying new, or finding a good repair person and hand it onto them to work on instead of tripping over things you'll never get time to fix.

Similar story .
At my old school I had a desk for doing repairs and making stuff , but it ended up being a dumping ground and there was no room on it to do anything .

LOL , so I would just do stuff at the desk where the Computer was simply because it had a bit of space .

My new school , the prep-room is tiny and so any repairs are again done on my computer desk .

I used to always bring in my soldering station from home when required ( it was a Hako brand one that I used in my TV tech days ) but got a cheap temp controlled station from Jaycar for School use . But it is a total piece of shit compared to my old Hako so I again bring mine in to save the frustration . A good Temp controlled Soldering Iron will make a big difference .
While talking about soldering , I still use good old 60:40 tin/lead solder . If you want to use the lead free stuff , be prepared for the crappiest solder joins . Lead free solder is the best way to put people off soldering for ever.

I can’t believe how many years I suffered with magnifying glasses and headlamp torches . :whistling2:

Stick a pair of reading glasses on while looking through this baby and you are at a whole new level of visibility …… I kid you not . I feel like I can see as well as I could when I was 16 yr
