cleaning soot off evaporation bowls

Post by bigmack »

Hey gang

With our access to nearly every chemical available ,just wondering if anyone has found an easier method than elbow grease for removing soot.?
IE , soaking in NaOH or HCl

I just use a cloth or sponge and water. It comes straight of the smooth sections and the rough stuff can just stay black if it doesn't wipe off easily...

I just wash mine in hot soapy water. I don't worry too much because they'll just get sooty again. After bigmack's challenge I soaked two evap basins over the weekend in the hydrochloric acid (approx. 20%) that I use for stubborn stains and VOILA! Absolutely ineffectual. I guess we're stuck with sooty basins. I'd post pics but "the file is too large".

Good Tip bucketchem , looks like it's soap and water and I'll get a magic eraser.

You need to keep the file size to less than 500Mb .if you open your pic in Microsoft Paint , you can resize it to around 800px on the longest side and that will usually keep it under 500Mb
