If you have access to dry ice you could use some different indicators in large cylinders or beakers of water and drop the dry ice in. We did it yesterday with universal indicator, but any of the ones that change for CO2 (bromothymol blue and lime water?) would work as well I'm guessing. Our kids just had water and a few drops of indicator, but maybe if you started with a dilute base to start from purple it will gradually go through all the colours to red! And dry ice is always fun anyway!
