We have senior biology students doing EEIs this term, some of them are keen to use earth worms in their experimental procedures. Has anyone purchased earthworms for their science department, and if so where from, how do they travel freight wise, and how much are they? Any feedback would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Re: buying earth worms
Hi,
We had a year 8 class set up a worm farm in term 2. We purchased our tiger worms from a local nursery. They come in a box with compost and I think there was 1000 in a box. They were $25 for a box. There is a good website that has a fact sheet on worm farming.

We keep ours in the prep room and they seem to be very happy.
Good luck

If you ask around someone is bound to have a worm farm at home. If they are caring for them properly they will be breeding profusely and will probably be able to spare you some. They are easy to care for and easy to set up in tubs or whatever. The fact sheets or information you will find on line will explain the procedure. Keeping worms can be fun.

Our local primary school, keeps a worm farm, and they are very happy for us to take some from them, a few times a year. So do ring around your local area.

Re: buying earth worms
We have 3x worm farms here that we use their by product for agriculture and worms as food for aquaculture. They are great fun and we have tens of thousands of the little buggers. Below is the link to where we got them and hopefully it should answer all your questions also! Our students here can confidently say they have worms!

Pilar,
Healy State School was breeding them last year. Why not ask them?
