This has been a fascinating read.
I tend to look like the office staff - probably because that's my background and I do work a fair bit in the office too.
so I have uniform "ish" blouses and skirts, pants in winter but for individuality I proudly wear my sky blue tie dyed lab coat - the latest in designer labware!
Have never even thought about wearing denim to work. Doesn't seem appropriate for me.
Don't have steel capped shoes - just flat rubber soled ones with covered in toes - kind of like the ones the girls wear.
Gotta get some red shoes though.

I INSISTED that she look up the catalogue to see if the had them in red!

I am a bit like Patti, I try to dress 'professionally' as this is a private school with a dress code. I definately look better than most of the teachers and I don't need to dress as well as I do but it is a pride thing, I am repsresenting the school and trying to show professionalism to the students. I don't wear boots or steel caps just covered leather shows, if I spill anything it is my own fault.

Me too Sue, It made my day yesterday and this morning, I love all the ideas, don't know whether to go with the bib'n brace or batik pants, had to wear steel caps in a previous lab job no thanks, As some of you have said, might be in jeans but still better dressed than some teachers. I haven't got any of those red shoes but I do have leather stiletto boots, that upsets the fashion police. I have enough pairs of jeans (O.K. all different sizes, but maybe one day) to last me the next 10 years. So we will see what happens

Well, who would have thought we could chat on about dress code.

I want a photo of Sassi in those red shoes. You must liven up your prep room I have been at my school for over a year and have now earnt the right to have one of the school SASS shirts. WOW! So I don't have to worry about the top just the bottom and as long as it matches with the shirt I think I can wear anything as long as it is professional.

I would love to wear denim everyday but I think the implied tone of dress is non denim but who knows maybe I will be bold and daring and take the risk.

If someone told me I had to wear a tie I would melt it over a bunsen burner and also burn a shirt a bit and then take it and dump it onto whoevers desk and say that I was fixing some bunsen burners and my tie caught alight

If there's a no-denim policy here, no-one's told me. I wear black jeans (mainly cos I hate blue), shirt with collar. What cactus155 said about ties:

Ties in science would be a OH&S issue. We could have a lot of fun with this topic. The administration ladies in the front office, last year purchased nice Georgeitt type of material blouse's black with white dots, looked very nice, but it is NOT suitable for science or TAS, so we wear the old cloth ones. It is a problem working in science that one can just not look as smart, like the office ladies, so put your white coat on and out shine them.

Aaahhh! But there you have it you see? We don't LOOK as smart, but actually we ARE smarter. It's kind of along the lines of "those who can, do...."

Speak for yourself, I am both smarter AND I look smarter than the office ladies (and the teachers too for that matter) But then again I am vain and I am swedish Todays outfit; Dark blue high waisted denim skirt (a bit on the short side), white and orange stripey tight t-shirt, black patent leather belt, black patent leather Lisa Ho gladiator sandals (I do have shoes I slip into for the chem prep room) AND a white (although very stained) lab coat! Typical labbie or what?

the only whips that youre going to see, are the ones that the teachers slave drive you with, and the leather is the stuff thats wearing out on your shoes! Ha! Ha!
