Hi all
I have mentioned this course to my head teacher, talk about jumping through hoops to get the permission to attend!!!! Money always seems to be a problem when it comes to science techs.
Not so with teachers though. So I am waiting for it to go through the channels. :whistling2: :whistling2:
Cheers

Estelle,
I'm pretty sure our science coordinator just read through the facilitator notes & went from there.
She photocopied some of the resource sheets onto OHP transparencies & I got out some of the chemicals for her.
I know she hasn't done the 4 day OHS course 'cause she sent me to it instead!

Really there shouldn't any reason why you couldn't run the course if you feel confident lecturing the teachers.
good luck

Hey Bindi!
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you before this but have been as busy a trout swimming upstream!

I haven't got the details at the moment as my HT has them and (typically) is unavailable to retrieve them. As soon as I can I will fax details to you.

Regards,
Lou.
P.S Just wondering what suburb you live in as I am originally from Harbord.

Is the course just for Labbies, or can teachers come too? Our new Chem teacher is new to Chem, and might benefit.

If its the one run by Phillip Crisp? it is about $300.00 in all. And I belive it is for any one in science. It only goes over the CSIS, which he/she could read for them sheves. Phillip Crisp did the draft on the CSIS, he is very good.

The Phillip Crisp course costs $300 + GST and includes a course book (220 pages), morning tea and lunch each day and a certificate of attendance.
Alternatively you can attend one day only for $198.

Day 1 includes:
General lab safety
How to avoid an "accident"
Dangerous chemicals
Disposal of chem wastes
Safe use of equipment
Safe storage and use of chemicals
Legal obligations

Day 2 includes:
Risk assessment
Electrical safety
Computer use, ergonomics and lifting
Fire safety and emergency procedures
Systematic approach to safety

Hope this helps,

Robbie

Hi all,

I too went to this course 3 years ago and found it very interesting. We got some useful OH&S info and as a result bought scissor lift trolleys to ease the heavy lifting. I won't be going this time, as it looks exactly like the previous one, but the new part-time lab assistant may go and one of our teachers is going too.
Have a good time - and yes the food was very good.

Carol. :)
