Survey - How many students at your school vs lab techs

Post by Sassi »

Morning,

My head teacher is gonna give it another try to get me a part time assistant, but she needs some help to do this since our principle is a bit stubborn :wink2:

What I would like to know is how many students do you have at your school and how many labtechs do you have, if you have part time techs, how much part time? If as many of you could respond to this as possible and as quick as possible, I will compile the data, plonk it into excel to graph and then I can also run some stats on it (I LOVE stats  ), and eventually post it all here... It would be interesting to now and it may even help more of us get some extra help, one can only hope [-o< Also if some of you know lab techs who are not using chemtalk maybe you can ask them also, the more data the better!

Thanks,

Sassi

We have about 1150 students. I have some one who comes in for an hour every night to clean glassware and help feed and care for the farm studies animals. I am doing 8 hour days and not working any school holidays.

Sassi,it has more to do with the number of labs.
My first school x12 labs,x1 term time labbie per x4 labs
My second school x15 labs,x2 term time labbies and x3 labbies who each did 4hours on 3 days.
My third school,x4 labs and x1 term time labbie
Present school(Qld) x4 labs ,I do term time and another labbie is full time. This is the Catholic system and it is different!

We have 1117 students. 7 labs and 9 teachers.

There is just me!! :-(

As this is a department school I work 6hr 15 minutes /day and have all holidays off.

When I started 9 years ago Science had 1 full time assistant and 1 part time 4 days a week. Over the time this has been whittled down ( whilst the numbers of SASS in the Front Office increased !) :w00t: until from the start of term 2 I lost my one day a week helper.

Most of the time it is very hectic and I seldom get time to do the maintenance stuff like leads, etc

Feeling fairly spoilt here! We have 550 students, 3 labs and me. I work 45 hours a fortnight, and don't get paid for holidays, unless I even out my pays over the twelve months. I llok after 10 different teachers, of whom 3 are full time science, and all the other do Maths/Science or PE/Science or even RE/Science.
Cheers, K 8-)

Hi all,
We have 650 students 7-12. Six labs, which run pretty much full time. I work a 6.5 hour day.I also do a bit with our Junior School (K-6), and even the Preps! They're my favourite, as they actually applaud the demos! Nothing like an appreciative audience.
Good luck Sassi.

Hi Everyone and thank you soo much for your replies!

I have thought about this a bit further and it seems that most of us are working alone and that there is a bit of a difference in how many students we have. I would like to ask you all if you could possibly edit yor post and add how many classes in total you have for science, as I guess that would be a more accurate way of looking at it, the amount of work we do is directly related to how many classes we have, not how many students as some classes may have very few students while others have large class numbers. Sorry I should have realized this before posting, oooops! I would really appreciate your help again!

Sassi ;)

We have 400 students and 4 labs(all on the ground floor, lucky me!). I work 26 hours a week and don't work in the holidays - if I did it would come to be expected, and the admin. here are not good at remembering to pay/give time off for overtime.
