Hi Sassi,

We have 620 students in years 11 and 12 at present

Yr 11 & 12 chemistry x 4
Physics x 3
Senior science x 4
Biology x 4
Agriculture x 2
Marine studies x 2
Earth & Environmental x 1
With one lab tech. full time since Oct 2007. Until then the lab position was shared between the front office staff. Teachers often collected their own equipment for pracs and called on help if they needed solutions made up or had exams. I was quite surprised when I came to the school that it did not have a full time lab position. The head teacher had been trying for 10 years (since the school was built) to get a full time labbie and I arrived just before he transferred.

There are just under 600 students here. I have three labs, two prep rooms and a storage area for flammables, corrosives etc, on the senior campus and two labs and a prep room and store room on the middle school campus. I use my vehicle to travel between the two campuses.
Y7 - 4 classes one of which is indigenous.
Y8 - 5 classes, one is indigenous
Y9 - 3 plus a Y9 extension class for the bright(?) kids
Y10 - 3 classes plus a Y10 extension class for the brightest Y10
Y11 - biology, physics, chemistry, contemp.issues in science,
Y12 - chemistry, physics, psychology, contemp.issues in science and biology
IES - international students with english as a second language
and some indigenous classes who have english as a second language. These indigenous students do some limited science lessons on the middle school campus.
We have a six period day and all levels have 4 periods a week except Y7 who have three periods.

Hi everyone, you all deserve medals for all the work you do! I thought I was busy but I have nothing to complain about. Especially you Wendy, how does one person manage to prepare for all those science lessons by yourself? I'm exhausted just reading about it. You are all very special people to still remain in this job.

By Jimminy! Some of you people should be wearing a giant SL on your chests! (Super Labbie)
This year is the first year of a full compliment of years at our school (we are five years old) with approx 850 students. it is anticipated to increase to 1200 over the next couple of years with just me.
Curently we have
4 x yr7
6 x yr8
6 x yr9
6 x yr10
4 x yr11 (Bio, Phys, Chem, Senior Sci)
4 x yr12 (as yr11)
I work a 38hr week.
Hope this helps,
Lou.

I agree with loopy, you should all be wearing SuperLabbie signs, I am well and truly impressed, this has been so interesting. The data is coming along great I now have data for 30 schools, but I want more so please keep it coming \:D/

I would love to take you all out for wine (or beer if you must) to thank you all for your help :drunk: but since I am afraid that would be quiet impossible (due to the size [small] of my pay check) I will instead post a little piccie of my favorite flowers for you all to enjoy!

Hi people,
There are almost 1500 students here with 9 or 10 classes from year 7-10 and 2 to 3 chem, physics and bio classes in years 11 and 12 and 1 senior science and 1 earth and environmental science class.
There are 8 labs spread from one end of the school to the other (including a portable lab), 15 science teachers but 5 of them don't teach a full load.
I'm full-time at 6.25hours/day, normal DET conditions and there is a casual lady that joins me one day/week...This all sounds alot worse than it actually is, I think the teachers must be quite gentle here!
regards,
cathy

Morning,
I'm a bit embarrassed to add my stats. I really have it very easy. I work 5 days a week 6.25hrs/day and have school holidays off. We have 4 labs. 3 have access off the prep room and the 4th is not very far away.
We are a smallish school with about 500 kids.

6 teachers 4 fulltime, and 2 parttime
yr 7 4 classes about 25 kids /class
yr 8 4 classes
yr 9 4 classes
yr 10 4 classes
yr 11 2 bio, 1 chem, 1 phys average 10 kids/class
yr 12 2 bio, 2 chem, 1 phys average 10 kids/class

Good luck Sassi

My hat's off to you Cathy!
I have 9 labs, 1200 students, 15 teachers but only yr's 11 & 12 so a lot of stuff is repeated, for instance 9 yr 11 Bio class's So 2 are on at same time, having enough gear is sometimes a problem.

Hi Lorrae
If you think that's embarrassing, try this:

We have approx. 200 students in our school

Stage 4 (Years 7 & 8 ) are divided into 3 classes
Year 9 - 2 classes
Year 10 - 2 classes
Stage 5 (Years 9 & 10) - 2 composite Ag classes
Year 11 - 1 each small Chem, Bio, Phys
Year 12 - as above
2 labs attached to prep room
4 teachers - some teaching other subjects as well
and me.
:coffee:
I have it pretty cruisy but also coordinate student reports and BOS entries.
You have to be multi-talented in small schools \:D/
