I have been trying to order some Erichrome black T for water testing but can't see it listed does anyone know a supplier

I just looked up Serrata and they have it. I'm on the wrong computer to look up Q Stores. Who is your usual chemical supplier?

For our water testing this year, I bought kits from Southern Biological to determine hardness etc - and they are great! Easy, quick and always give a good result.

I rang serrata and asked they gave me the No so went on line tried again
No luck with name search but put in the No and up it came as
CH-erichrome black T What's the CH stand for?

Just Googled it:

Chemical Formula: C20H12O7N3SNa

so maybe carbon & hydrogen?

I think CH just means it's a chemical. Whenever I get chemicals from Serrata the invoice has CH before the chemical name.

I did a search on Serrata just for eriochrome and it came up.

Ahhhhhhhhhh! eriochrome, silly me I was looking for Erichrome

Doeds anyone else have trouble with serrata catalogue online?
I often have trouble using the search - it comes up with 'not found'... yet I KNOW they stock the stuff!
I sit with their printed catalogue and just use the internet to check prices....
maybe if enough have troubles we should let them know

Didn't we hear that Serrata are bringing out a more user-friendly catalogue?

Maybe they'll have some new ones at St Marys this year.

The Serrata catalogue is a shocker!!! It's very pretty,but it takes ages to find anything!!!

I think the serrata web site was designed by a child, all that colour and so un-user-friendly. I find it so frustrating that I won't use it any more and therefore buy from them.

I can't say I've really had a problem with it. If I do a search for something and can't find it, I try searching again using only half the word and usually something of use comes up.

Just wondering if one of you experts can help me?

One of my senior chemistry teachers has asked me for some Erio T indicator. Told him we do not have any and he has asked me to find the recipe and make it up for him. Help!!!!!!! Ive tried my books and folders and found nothing.

Its full name is Eriochrome Black T. Another name is Mordant Black 11. You can't make it up if you don't have it! Ask him for a substitute. Your can't pull it out of thin air - well not without notice.

Eriochrome T is used in titrations to demonstrate water hardness, forms complex with calcium and other metals. Ask your teacher what she/he wants. To demonstrate water hardness you can use GH – total hardness tests, very easy to use (bay one from aquarium shops a prox. $15.00)

Do a search for eriochrome black T and you will find some previous discussion on it. Apparently it comes in powder form. Anyway, the recipe is in that earlier one.
