Hi all,

I have several bottles of waste chemicals which have built up and I would like to reduce the quantity. How may I treat and minimize lead iodide in particular. Can copper sulphate which is not suitable for recycling be soaked into kitty litter eg and discarded in normal refuse. ( a previous post suggested sawdust)

For solutions, add sodium sulfide, sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate, stir and place the mixture in the appropriate waste bottles. When settled, the clear solution may be decated and washed down the sink. Wash area of spill thoroughly with detergent solution the rinse.

Let the copper sulphate evaporate (either slowly sitting in the fume cupboard or rapidly over heat) and you shouldnt have much left over once it has crystalised.
