Hi all in labbie land,
We are getting new labs next year, and the architect has mentioned a fume system called Laminar,reticulated system. Not as heavy duty as the normal fume hoods, but efficient none the less. Does anyone have any experience with this system? Any comments appreciated.

They are efficient, but keep in mind Laminar Flow units are not intended to be safety devices.

Air recirculates back to the user through many holes in a laminar flow, rather than being vented by a turbulent updraft.

They protect the work, not the user!

I thought that laminar flow cabinets are mainly
used in Microbiology labs and not in the preparation
of chemicals.

Yes air blows out towards you, which isnt ideal as you will be blowing chemicals/fumes onto yourself.
