Hi All,
Our school is hosting a visit from Yr6 students from our area before christmas. I was wondering if anyone has any christmas themed practical lessons or ideas we can do that is safe for yr6.
Feed back will be appreciated.

Not a Prac but you could make a laboratory Christmas tree for them

You could do the borax crystal prac with the pipe cleaners shaped like Christmas trees or stars? I will find the post.

Do a search for 'Borax' March 2007 - makes a Christmas snowflake but it takes a couple of days.

I have the Borax recipe, this will probably be a half a day visit, so need something for them to do.
Was thinking making the playdoh with salt and sugar with the led lights?? they can do a shape - not sure about that..
so stumped on the xmas theme

maybe making a series of light bulbs connected and coloured in christmas colours with nail polish and strung up on the wall or somewhere.
We make fake snow here as we had some professor bunsen kits( I know they dont exist anymore) but maybe search on interent for recipe)

I was thinking
lava lamps in Christmas colours
chromatography with M&M's or skittles
Christmas slime you could even add glitter

I just googled 'christmas science' and quite a few options came up

Does anyone have anything interesting planned for end of year/xmas class activities this year?

Radioactive decay with red and green M&M's? Radioactive decay prac was planned but the only M&M's I could find were the Christmas themed ones so I just sorta went with it.

We allow borax for slime making but gloves must be used and no taking home the product. Kids are not allowed to use it in powdered form. A borax solution less than 4.5% is not actually classified as hazardous.

We had a good one making Xmas angels by doing chromatography on coffee filters. That makes the skirt of the angel and then there was a template for the top of the angel that they coloured in and stapled onto the skirt. The problem is i found it very difficult to find white coffee filters as they all seem to be brown unbleached ones now. Ill see if i can find the template just in case.

pdf was too large a file so i took a screen shot and put it in a word file. You could probably do a better job anyway but gives the idea.
