eye balls in Wollongong

Post by Kathryn »

Hi
Anyone from the Wollongong area have a local source for eyeballs? I usually get them from Dissection Connection but trying to cut back on the delivery charge.

Hi Kathryn
We usually get ours from Illawarra Smallgoods in Fairy Meadow, but this year we're getting preserved eyes from Southern biology, because we're doing it across the whole year and need 65 eyes. The teachers will be doing the dissections over a week or two and decided it would be better to get the preserved ones.
They've always been happy enough with the eyes from Illawarra Smallgoods, but are worried about their viability over the time period.

Thanks. I'll give them a call. I'll be interested to know what you think of the preserved ones.

Hi Kathryn,
I just order them from my local butcher at Albion Park. They sometimes take a week to come in. Cost is $1.50 each.

Hi Kathryn
I also get them from the local butcher who gets them in turn from the abbattoir in picton
sometimes they arrive sometimes they dont but can only order 20 at a time for some reason
every time I order hearts or kidney I order 20 eyes too then freeze them in a 0.9% sol of saline
if I dont need them straight away

I get them from the abattoirs and freeze them if they're not to be used straight away. The lens is better fresh though.

Vacuum packing them then freezing seems to work well....
