Anyone know what I can use for flourescence under a UV lamp? I have misplaced my lump of Flourite, and need something else to use for class next time we have them, so no time to put an order in.

I have fleuro markers for them to draw and shine on lamp. Any other ideas?

Liquid paper pens? Scorpions glow. Most eye drops will make your eyes glow under UV light. True!! not much use those but bright plastic cups/toothbrushes/bright string/plastic toys/teeth/fishing line etc etc

Also try different oils. I can't remember exactly which ones off the top of my head but some vegatable cooking oils, and petroleum oils, grease etc fluoresce as does dishwashing detergent. Just pour a sample of the oil/detergent into a petri dish and place under UV light in a dark cupboard to see which ones.

Depends on what time frame you're working under. Southern Biological has this terrific item called Glitter Bug, which fluoresces under UV light. In the starter Kit you get a bottle of powder, a bottle of hand cream, both with the fluorescent powder in them, and a little UV light. The kit is great for pracs on spreading germs, etc, so we use it for Hygiene lessons AND physics lessons about light.

Thanks guys... I have just ordered the glitter bug, but dont think it will arrive in time for the class. However, it means I will have it and teacher can maybe fit in a demo to finish off topic.
I will get busy with trialing out all the other things on all your posts.
Youre a great bunch! Thanks \:D/

If you have any mineral samples, fluorite and calcite also fluoresce under UV light.

That's right! Vitamin B12 - i.e. Berocca Performance B group tablets in water do glow - helps you pee in the dark also.

Hi All,

An excellent Chemiflourecent reagent against shorter wavelength and High frequency radiation is Flourosceine.

This is used in most standards for Fluoroscopy for the determinations in Pharmacopia substances..

Robb...
