Titration ratios

Post by Ocean Breeze »

According to my equation calcs... one mole of Na2CO3 should react with one mole of H Cl ?
Anyone confirm? So that means that 25 ml of 0.1 M/L Hcl will neutralise 25 ml of 0.1M/L Na2 Co3 in soln?

Hi Rainbow sky,

The reaction between HCl and Sodium Carbonate is actually a 2 to 1 Ratio:

As follows:

2HCl + Na2CO3 ----> 2NaCl + CO2 + H2O
2 : 1 ----> 2:1:1
The 2 to 1 ratio I have described for you in red..

I hope this has clarified this for you.

Cheers,

Robb.....

Na2CO3 + 2HCl => 2NaCl + H2O + CO2

so you would need twice as much HCl compared to Na2CO3
