True it is all calcium carbonate but I would say Marble. Limestone is a lot softer and isn't shiney if that makes sense. the marble chips I have are hard and shiney so go for the marble

I do the same as sunray, leave in the fume hood to evapourate, but only if there are small amounts, otherwise it gets saved for collection.

Data logger sensors
Hi All,
I am trying to orgainse next years budget and we are looking at getting a set of data loggers with a bunch of general sensors. What sensors do you have and what ones would you recommend for a basic set?

the snow ball prac invoved mixing ethanol with the calcium acteta to form a jeely like ball rinsing it off and them setting it on fire. It's a demo to show ethanoll doesn't burn as hot as other things. once the snowball is on fire you can apparently play catch with it, so probably not very helpful f...

Re: soap making
Maybe just suggest they use vegetable oil, as it is easier and cheaper to procure. A little off track when I was a kid on the farm my mum use to make soap out of sheep fat when we slaughtered sheep. She would cook it up in a big pot and strain the sinew out of it and they make her soap VERY STINKY. ...

Re: Rust Stains on Glassware
Hi,
I have a bunch of rusty test tubes that have been soaking in napisan for days (some more than a week). Most of them have come clean but there are a few very stubbourn ones. Now I don't have any Oxalyic acid what else could I use to clean these up? someone mentioned 3M HCL will this work?

Hi Lyn,
I would be great if you could email that to me Rowann.Lambert@ntchools.net I have the OH&S manual Science Guidelines 2008 but it doesn't seem to cover which chemicals are allowed for each yr level.
It is being used for yr 11 chemistry so I'm good on that one .
Thnaks!.
